Hey everybody. With the amount of support on my last blog(mostly from the the ToR guys but still) I have been really motivated to keep a blog reasonably up to date, without it becoming a diary.
Just a little recap of what happened with The Pandarine Cup. That was a really great event. So with my story. I didn't have my computer or internet connection, but I also wanted to loose my competition virginity, so I organized to bring my keyboard and mouse to a LAN Gaming & Internet Cafe. I rocked up there with half an hour to get my keyboard sorted and get comfortable with my set up, which is why I played terribly average. The hard-drive of the computer was up against the wall followed by the screen with only just enough space for my keyboard. Not my ideal settings at all but I managed to do pretty well and make it into the quarter finals before being taken out by Sneak who Siege Tank expanded both games. Big thanks to Panda and all the admins and casters ♥
Last week during my adventures on ladder, I came against a guy from FaDe. FaDeSyN was possibly one of the most mannered guys I have come across. Load into the game and get a '' followed by 'ToR!!' which was refreshingly surprising. After some in-game banter and a bit of a crushing, SyN was awesome and was saying that I was going to get promoted because his MMR is Diamond level. Turns out that you get remembered more for being nice then BM.. just a hint to some people ;D
I have been really hesitant to ladder lately. I feel like I am in a really comfortable position on ladder right now sitting 1st in my division and 18th in SEA . Although I have been winning 75% of my games, I haven't been playing enough to get promoted with the turn of the season but im still hoping. The most important thing that I know I have to understand before I get any better is that losing isn't a bad thing. At the moment loosing only gets me really pissed and prevents me from playing anymore. Changing my mindset is the most prominent obstacle in my way to being >. Once I stop the rage from loosing and making stupid mistakes, I'll be able to mass ladder and see where my game play can be improved the most.
I have been noticing how bad the BSG leagues really are (In the nicest way possible). I am playing against these people and recognizing there mistakes, but at the same time I am playing just as averagely. Im really looking forward to being in the higher leagues and have a greater understanding with reactions and meta.
Watching DeMusliM play in a TvT in HotS, he played against the same guy 2 games in a row. His opponent was raging (inside) because DeMusliM went for a fast 3rd. He was discussing after the game the reasoning why he went for a fast 3rd, which was because he scouted no gas, and marines were at the natural ramp. THAT is what I want to be able to do. Justify my actions with information such as the little amount that I normally gain through scouting. Analyzing the situation and knowing straight away the best way to react is my new goal rather then one that is of a promotional value.
v I have been wanting to stray away doing the Slayers Style build that I was discussing in my last blog. I have been recently been going for a 1 rax fe, followed with fast siege, so I can gain a defensive positioning to take a 3rd.
Im not sure of mech in this match-up. It seems like a solid unit composition but I really like the mobility of the Marines. Dealing with drops and harassment is a job that can only be left to Marines.
Finally I think it would be 'fun' to start attempting some 1-1-1 variants with Banshees because Banshees look and are just pure awesome-ness.
vI have to thank ToRParo a lot for helping me in this match-up. Watching his stream actually really opened my eyes to how strong units can be with really fast upgrades in not only vs Protoss, but against every race. The build he suggested was fast ups and a Marine Medivac timing push. Generally against every race, fast upgrades make attacking with the upgrade advantage enjoyable lol
v Not too long ago I learned how to play mech, which isn't the hardest but troubles occur when I play with that unit composition. EVERY TIME without a doubt, my opponent will go Mutalisk. I am expecting it to happen but for some reason my scanning always misses the spire. By the time Mutalisks are attacking my mineral line, I have 1 Thor out and it always goings down before I can start mass repairing it. I have decided just to stick to the standard Marine Tank unit comp, and give it my best go at splitting against Banelings.
v Wing it as always
Hope everyone gets promoted with the ladder reset and good luck to everyone next season.
I agree with your comments on well mannered gamers which you tend to remember long after you have forgotten BM ones. Really sounds like you are heading in the right direction. You will be in gold then plat before you know it....GL GG!
Just a heads up - If the uncertainty on your MMR is too high (ie you don't have enough losses to accurately determine your league) you may be waiting a long time for a promotion.
Good luck to you Sir.

Yeah I haven't been consistently been playing against Golds, compared to how many I was playing in Bronze against Silvers. I reset my account and started from the bottom but I never seemed to hit a spot were I have been playing 50/50 win/loss. Only way is up I guess. Cheers man

Considering that you played in an environment outside of your usual setup, QF finish is a decent finish.
About ladder anxiety, don't worry about it. The pros get it too. Remember to have a good game and have fun.
And yes, in BSG if you can spot certain things, you are at an advantage eg. no gas for ? Two possibilities, he is 1Rax FE or he is going to do some mineral intensive cheese (eg. proxy 2Rax, 4Rax Marine SCV All-In, Bunker Rush) Never trust current metagames as it can screw you over. You could be thinking, 'Oh, I know what he's going' and then bamn! The unexpected.
Re certain matchups, Mech in vs matchups is all about the positioning and Drop denial. It's a good comp to go vs Marine Tank (Marines will die to Hellions or Tanks if not microed, Tank fire is not as devastating) but is a knife edge for those going a MMM style (have you seen what Marauders do to all your Mech units? Have you?!?)
In vs , what Paroxysm has told you is true. A good timing and fast ups will give you that edge over BSG level . Let them get the better upgrades and you will have a tough time to win. Also, drops will give you a good advantage and while Ghosts are necessary when HT or Archons are on the field, they are a good unit to have all the time.
In vs , Mech is a powerful comp. The main obstacles are Roaches, Infestors, Broodlords and to an extent, Mutas. As Mech is Gas heavy and only Mineral intensive when remaxing, you should be able to drop a few Turrets here and there. If that doesn't discourage, then try getting your Thor ASAP. A few things to note, harass the living daylights out of them. Be as efficient with your units as possible. Kill Drones, Hatcheries, Tech, Queens, Overlords, Creep Tumours, anything as long as it affects the Macro ie. forcing units. Be sure to be prepared to receive an onslaught of units that can kill if you do so though.
I would offer you builds and what not but I play alot of my games 'Panda Style'. Which means, I do whatever the **** I want, when I want, how I want :P Okay, fine. Its more of a passive-reactive style with a drop of harassing to mix it up.
Oh, if you're interested, you could always read my Blog journey to as well as get a few replays from the link down below in my sig

Ladder anxiety has been my biggest curse but I think I've gotten over it just recently. What helped me get over it was this:
I don't want to get demoted, but if I don't play then I won't get better and the chance that I will get demoted increases. To get better at the game you have to play, so treat each games a lesson and try and learn from them... Especially the ones you lose.

I presume it is working? :3
