Wassup, feel like blogging about the last few weeks that were filled with eSports.
3 weeks ago was the Vroom lan in Chermside, Brisbane. I didn't really know what to expect as it was the organisers first time holding a tournament so I thought it wouldn't really be very smooth. I was very wrong. The comp started just about on time and the games progressed at a really quick pace for only having 4 games on at a time. I played a few terrans (silver and diamond I think) in the winners bracket and then faced evesigns. I was pretty confident that I could take at least one game off him and maybe the series. I can't really remember the first game but he managed to take it, so I decided to do 10 pool speed the second game. He went 10 pool and lost most of his initial lings to mine so I was in a really good position until I looked back at my pool and saw I hadn't even started speed so I gg'd out quite annoyed.
Overall it was a pretty good lan and the first one after I had started really practicing and gotten masters. I think I came 6th or so which I was pretty happy with, even though there weren't the top names (glade, targa, jimdiddy, sensei etc). Big shout out to Vroom for holding that, it was good fun.
The next weekend was the ACL Bris qualifiers which I wasn't even planning on coming down for but I'm glad I did. I met a few people who I hadn't before there which is always nice and the venue was pretty good a part form the fact that the air con for the whole place was right above the computers and that we had to play on tiny tiny laptop screens which made ling bane micro very hard.
I played a first timer bronzey first round and I think the next round I faced Signs again.. we joked before the match about me forgetting speed, and then first game he won. I decided to do the jerry build game 2 and was very annoyed when I again looked at my pool and saw no speed even started. I think I won another 2 games in lower bracket until I hit iM's newest pickup, SundeR.
Game 1 was on Daybreak and I'm pretty sure we both speeding expanded. It turned into a pretty good macro game and I had the edge the entire game pretty much. I kept him in his base and took an early fourth while we roach infestor battled for awhile. I eventually teched to broods and managed to kill his roach hydra festor composition.
I was super super pumped after seeing him gg out and started getting really nervous as I was one game away from knocking SundeR out.. the last ACL I was a crappy platinum and now I'm one game from beating a "pro" player. I don't know what happened in my mind because I decided for the next two games cheese would be the way to go... He embarrassingly crushed my builds and advanced while knocking me out.
I was really disappointed after the series as I believe I could've taken the series if I had played straight up. Although coming 9-12th is a pretty big achievement for me as I have always come basically tied last.
I didn't really play much in the week leading up to ACL and I don't know why, I think I just lost a bit of motivation but now after ACL I can definitely feel me getting it back.
ACL Melbourne was ******* sick.
Getting ready for my flight on friday at about 12:30 I got a text from jetstar saying my flight was cancelled. That made me really nervous and mad about getting down there but luckily I got on an earlier flight.
My play in the open bracket was ******* horrible. I only played 2 series and got 0-2'd and 1-2'd. My first loss was to the CJ entus dude (******* awesome jacket btw) and then to a protoss I forget the name of.
The second game vs Arterial I didn't play out as the lag on the computers tilted me like nothing else and I'm really disappointed I didn't play out the game as I feel like it is a bit unsportsman like, everyone one was experiencing the same lag so I had no right to through in the towel like I did..
Anyway, losing my game in the lower bracket brought me as close to tears as anything starcraft related had.
I lost to a platinum (Someone said he was a masters smurf but IDK).
I don't know why I played like I did but it was horrible. My mind went blank and I completely forgot all of my knowledge of the matchup (ZvP).
The SA ToR boys were sitting behind me so I turned around and yelled some swear words about protoss at them, shook the guys hand, packed up and left the building. I couldn't believe how bad I played and I was so sad that I had gone out of the tournament in only my second match. I am still really disappointed.
There is some good that has come from it I think though. I am so motivated to get through the group stages for next ACL. I am going to be practicing as much as possible, and hopefully it won't just be ladder. I'm going to get GM on sea, then masters on NA, then (if the lag isn't as bad as it sometimes in) go for masters on Korea.
It might be a hard task though as last friday morning before my flight I got accepted into the University of the Sunshine Coast, which I am super happy about. The course is called Tertiary Preparation Program which basically offers subjects that will get you into courses when you finish. It's just a one semester thing and I will be doing a base subject that everyone does (some uni prep stuff), Chemistry, Computer Literacy and Business.
I am really scared that Chemistry is going to be very hard and will suck all my starcraft time away but ahwell, it'll be worth it in the end.
Mate it was ******* delicious, cheers for bringing that . I'm gonna buy some off usafoods and some of those chips that were in like a kinda beigey coloured bag. ******* shit was tasty as ****!
