Ok, so the first part wasn't called "Gaming Setup" but "Keyboard/Mouse Setup", but I'll get to why in a bit. First off, heres what my setup looks like at the moment:

Click the image to open in full size.

+ [What that stuff is] +
Click the image to open in full size.

Looks pretty good, right? But... For me, it feels a bit painful. Heres why:

Click the image to open in full size.

No, my mousepad is fine. Its brilliant actually. Its just my steelseries xai hasn't arrived after two weeks now. Every single part of my keyboard/mouse setup has arrived at completely different times... My mousepad after two days, the keyboard after a week, and the mouse after more than two weeks? Sure, some of you might be thinking that'd happen with all the different suppliers you'd get off eBay. But the keyboard and mouse were both from the same supplier. I guess I'll do what I do best and sit back and hope it arrives, lol.

Next up is the reason why I named the thread "gaming setup" and not "keyboard/mouse setup". Basically, I thought it'd be a cool idea to look around the internet for speakers that'd be better than the crappy, cheap, old ones I have at the moment. Sure, I use my headset heaps and its really comfortable, but sometimes you just feel like using speakers, even if its only music. Right now, I usually use my headset regardless because of how bad I think my current speakers are.

So what method did I decided to use while looking for speakers? The don't look at the price style, yet again. Ok, maybe I lied there, I looked at the price this time, because audio equipment can be extremely pricey if you just want the BEST. But, instead of the priciest speakers around, I decided that a pair of $300 speakers looked nice. Hm, contradictory you say?

Well slightly, but eBay came to the rescue again and its only $160 on there, free postage. Regardless of how much I think Im actually going to use the speakers, after about two weeks of opening the page on eBay and just staring at them, I think I might get them. I also think I might be getting a bit obsessed with all of this buying equipment I've been doing recently.

And I haven't even spent my money on Deus Ex: Human Revolution yet, either...

Im glad I have a job with decent pay...

Edit: Im clearly an idiot and didn't say which speakers they were. Im thinking about the Logitech Z623 speakers. Its a 2.1 setup, I cant go for 5.1 due to speaker placement issues.

Re: My Gaming Setup Part 2

Personally, I find that a basic monitor with an inbuilt speaker is more than fine enough. This is assuming that you will be using a dedicated head/earphone for yourself whenever you are using the computer. I find it to be more than unless you are using some custom made earphones that cost around US$1k which is a perfect fit for yourself only or some hi def sound system that has 7 surround sound speaker system.

I prefer to spend the money on upgrading my hardware aka the CPU and tweaking it most of the time. Either that or on some personal stuff like alcohol. :P

So, what kind of speakers were you looking at then?

For $300 it would be something like the Audioengine A5, right? :P

zerggy! when u look for speakers.. compare the watts to price.. obviously more watts = more power...

do read up this http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-10110100-47.html

for me i am a sound quailty freak.. so i would aim for high frequency and decibel speakers..

pick a speaker based on your type of music/ usage =D hope this helps

lol @ 'a lamp'

Is the screen usually at that position? Looks a few inches too far haha. Could just be the photo angle though.

Yes I usually put it back that far and keep the screen on a pretty low brightness setting. It can go really bright....

Also, for Erasmus and anyone else who was wondering, Im considering the logitech Z623 speakers, but I've been wrong in the past about which manufacturer would be good, so if you have any speakers which are a better value, post them up! ;P

The problem with high watts usage is that you will be limited by your computer PSU. That unless you have more than enough spare watts to give around. And if you have available spare watts to use, you are actually wasting quite a bit of electricity imo.

I can't really understand how people have to have the best gear accustomed to them just so they can play better. I just use noob standard Logitech Mouse/ keyboard, standard monitor and the only accessory i bought was my $80 headphones. They are really good though, Plantronics Gamecon, i would definately recomend it

tbh, for me, the 7G and 9HD just feel better and I know in the background they function better. As a gamer, you have to rely on everything that is allowing you to play to work efficiently, but with this stuff I don't even need to think about it and I'll know its working well. This won't help my gameplay THAT much.

I used to think the same way as you deaths until I got too used to my own KB and then going to a LAN shop/PC bang/whatever you call it in your locale. I feel that using a KB/mouse that you are used to makes a pretty big difference.

Same reason someone that does alot of Running will buy a good pair of shoes. Sure, you can run barefoot if you need to, but getting a good, expensive set of shoes is more comfortable and suits your needs better.

More power has nothing to do with sound quality though. It can affect volume, depending on the impedance of the speakers. Higher powered amplifiers (which is built into active computer speakers) will generally have better (wider) soundstaging, though.

Honestly, unless you are very intent on something shiny, buy a set of good studio monitors secondhand (e.g. http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/show...tudio-Monitors).

Most of the logitech speakers (that I've heard) have very poor balance to get the amount of bass they do, and it's not the greatest sounding bass anyway. Some people like them, but I'm not a fan.

Umm... I'm yet to see a set of speakers that is expected to be powered by the computer. Headphones yes, but most speakers have a separate power supply of their own, so this is not an issue.

And no, you aren't wasting electricity by having a power supply that can -potentially- provide more watts than your system needs. The fact it will not burst into flames until it's drawing over 1200W does not mean your 400W system will draw -any- more power than it needs.

Nice setup ^_^
I can't offer any advice on the speakers since I'm using 11 year old 2.1 Thunder(don't even know if they still exist) brand speakers :3
I have an IME 3.0 mouse here, and let me tell you that the move to the Xai will be a welcome one. The IME mice are so freaking fat and hard to move really quick around the screen.

I hope your Xai isn't lost in the mail!

I have the same headset, it is sick.

On topic though, I got quality equipment for longevity, to have some nice things and comfort.
Currently I have a Black Widow and a g500. Awesome for gaming, awesome for CAD
