Lately there have been a LOT of events overlapping and it's doing more damage to the scene than most people realise. For the past 12 months or so, I've been keeping a Google docs spreadsheet listing all of the events happening in (or relevant to) Australia and SEA. I've been sharing this document with a select number of people (ACL Staff, Blizzard staff, a few players) in order to keep them informed about upcoming events, however due to the sensitive/confidential nature of some events, I couldn't make this document public.
Inherently, this is the biggest problem. Everyone likes to launch out of nowhere with a great announcement about the next big event that's going to blow everyone away - without communicating with others. People need to be more transparent and co-ordinate with fellow organisations/managers and the community so that everyone can arrange their schedules, travel, accommodation, etc.
So anyway - here's what I plan to do. I'm going to create a replica of my spreadsheet, but I'm going to be editing out the sensitive/confidential events and replacing them with placeholder labels. At the very least, this will allow people to see exactly what dates aren't available during planning.
Here's an example screenshot below:
Shall post more information about this again soon.
This seems like quite the burden for one person to do. Perhaps you'd seek some assistance from the community Dox? Rather than having to scrape the information yourself, slap it on a google doc and let organisations/others who would like to help lend their support? Just an idea, there are issues of course (like who gets precedence on a date...) but hopefully it would work out.
