This blog roughly tells of my SC2 life the past year or so, hope you enjoy .
When I first got SC2 on the day of its release I was, like everyone else, extremely excited to start playing it and even had wild dreams of being the best player in SEA.
In the beginning I was placed into the Bronze League after cheesing almost every placement match game( I only read up on one protoss strategy back then, DT rush :P. Didnt even know how to do it properly) and winning 2 out of 5 games.
After being placed in Bronze I was not discouraged and began to watch a lot of commentaries/ tutorials/ Day9 dailies. After a week I was promoted to Silver League. Two weeks after that I was in Gold League. Another two weeks and I was in Platinum League. I was so pumped after getting into Platinum, I was so close to being in Diamond League(Diamond was the best at that time, in case any of you did not know that :P). After one month in Platinum, after a month of insane laddering I was in. I had made it, I was in Diamond.
Getting into Diamond was a huge accomplishment for me at that time. After having watched dozens of hours worth of videos and played hundreds of game I was in the best league at that time. After getting into Diamond, I continued playing and was very competitive on ladder. In November I found sc2sea.com and met various members and mods of the community. I got very involved in everything and chatted often with almost everyone in the chatbox.
From sc2sea.com came my first bunch of actual SC2 friends,(before I had only added people I met in ladder only to forget about them a week later) these people includes: Derpy, PinkandWhite, Zeion, DarkTemplar, HDPhoenixx and Potthead.
I really enjoyed talking to each one of them and SC2 became much more fun to me than just laddering. It became a place to talk to new friends and meet new people.
After a month since I first joined sc2sea.com, I stayed up late one night in December and began to randomly create a story in the chatbox with various community members as characters. While I ranted on in the chat, Zeion joined me and soon we began to develop a proper story from a bunch of random lines. This event made me enjoy writing stories and without this event, I would never have started writing at all and I would not have entered the Blizzard Writing Competition in 2011. Huge thanks to sc2sea.com for having started me writing.
November and December passed by quickly for me thanks to sc2sea.com and I participated my first and only bunch of competitions(Community Opens :P). sc2sea.com was an amazing discovery in my SC2 life.
I even attended the November/December SSL LAN competition due to finding out about it on sc2sea.com. For the November one I knew about nobody and did not dare speak up(I was/am shy IRL) and talk to others. But in the December SSL I managed to meet HDPhoenixx/Derpy IRL and participated in a few small custom user map contests and so I enjoyed my time at SSL much more .
Once December was over it was back to school for me. I continued visiting sc2sea.com and laddered my way into rank 1 Diamond(only cause the best in my division became Masters and opened up the position :P). In season 2, I played two games of 1v1 and became Masters. I had not been expecting becoming Masters at all and it came as a huge surprise to me.
After becoming Masters I do not know why but I began to play less and less 1v1(having only played 2 on ladder and maybe only a dozen on custom with friends) and began to play team games and custom user maps a lot with both IRL friends as well as friends from sc2sea.com.
Soon, season 3 came and with it I attended my first big gaming event, TGX 2011. Was dissapointed with how it was personally due to the lack of things in in general for an ordinary participant to do, no screen to watch sc2 casts and a lack of newer games on consoles/com. However, due the the greatness that is the chatbox of sc2sea.com, I met with Mezza and Frogmite and watched Frogmite cast a couple of games before being chased out of backstage by an organizer. Also saw Jaczie/nirvAnA but just could not get around my shyness and open my mouth to talk to them . Anyway, the event was a new experience for me and meeting Mezza and Frogmite was enough for me to enjoy the event in the end. Although I have to say, although quite a few people watched the main stage SC2 games, almost no one cheered on the players. I was about to cheer during the finals but stopped myself short because I did not want everyone to stare at me like a weirdo :P. Well I guess this shows how much more the E-Sports scene for SC2 in Singapore can grow.
The rest of season 3 I did not do that much in SC2 due to exams coming up as well as big events for my CCA(co-curricular activities if you never heard of this, basically every secondary school student in SG must have 1 CCA at least) which I was in charge of. I mostly just went onto sc2sea.com and chatted/posted :P.
At around the end of October, my exams ended and with it season 4 of ladder came. I decided to be more active in my 1v1s and even if I did not ladder, to play at least a few 1v1s with people around my level each day. For the first few days I played ladder a bit and did not do well due to my 'break' from 1v1ing in season 2 and 3. Although, for some reason Blizzard decided to let me keep my Masters position :P.
I grew slightly disheartened by my 1v1 performance but that was quickly fixed when I was invited by Pickle Weasel to into the Nerve Gaming chat channel and play some games with everyone, since he saw that I was looking for a clan in the Official Looking For Clan Thread. I really enjoyed playing with them and on the same day, 20th of October I was invited to be apart of the clan and accepted .
Now because of my new found clan, I am now actively playing 1v1 with the clan members, although not really laddering :P, and am slowly getting back into shape. Nerve Gaming Fighting!!!
Well, that about raps up the main things that happened in my SC2 life so far. I would finally like to thank everyone whom I have befriended over the last year or so for having made my SC2 life a much better experience than it could ever have been without all of you. Also, big thanks to PickleWeasel for having invited me into Nerve Gaming .
Well thats me about done with this blog, I guess theres only one last thing for me to say...
I can remember the first time in chat that I met you (I have a good memory :P) I was only a week or two old on this site and still waiting for my brother to come down from Qld so I could get an SC2 capable PC. You came in the chat and everyone was like Hey Brultze! so I copied and said Hi as well, all the while thinking in my head, "Who's this? o.0" We've come a long way since then, and I definitely know who you are now. Grats on Nerve and good luck with getting back in to laddering
Haha, I did the same crAzerk I only joined Nerve after I finished my exams . Btw Potthead, I remember those days lol, you were a super chatting machine back then xD. Anyway, we have definitely come a long way . Thanks for the congrats and I wish you the best in VB .
