One of the aspects of City Hunter's partnership with Kingston and Xeria Gaming is to bring to the community more sc2 events then ever before, and thus On the 2nd of October we held our 5th Starcraft II event and our first in a new series of SCII comps supported by Kingston. Dubbed City Hunter's Starcraft II Kingston Cup #1
32 people from across Sydney came down to Chinatown to compete for the 1st title in this new series, even with City Hunter event regulars aLtPiG and xGKingIaguz able attend due to IEM commitments, with well known players such as FXOTgun (a late withdrawal), iMYoonYJ, xGKingMafia, xGKingLight (a late withdrawal and aLtNinja, signing up it promised to be a very exciting day!
Unfortunately when planning the event I didnt realise Daylight Savings started that day so naturally people were late :|. Naturally YoonYJ rocks up around 2 1/2 hours and in vintage Yoon fashion still manages to finish all his qualifying games before the people that starting over a hour before him.
This tournament also featured my very first LAN appearance, thats right Chris@CityHunter (aka xGKingArnor :P) The most famous Bronze player in all of SEA proceeded to get his arse handed to him.
Game 1- a dirty little Probe gets inside my main I have my scv follow him but dont notice is drops a pylon in the corner of my main :| I get 4 gated and die GG
Game 2- NOT gonna fall for that twice, probe delays my 2nd depot and dies to my marine mwhahha, I do a standard Bronze build of 3-rax get up a nice supply and go out to attack him, unfortunately im half away across the map and he warp prisms DTs into my mineral line (DAMN YOU PATCH 1.4!) Ironically I put up a turret behind my wall to stop DTs getting in lol but forgot Warp Prisms are actually usable now :| GG 0-2.
I didnt play any other guys since that win meant Crisida advanced as he had beating everyone else in the group.
After some hard fought Qualifiers the finalists were determined: Pokerface, Crisida, CruxMyth, xGKingMafia, iMYoonYJ, aLTNinja, Kayz and Suparmani!
The Top 8 would be a best of 3 Double elimination Final (and somewhere along the line the admin decided to make the winner bracket final and Grand final bof5 and Mafia and Yoon proceeded to pretty much roflstomp everyone and meet up in the Upper Bracket Final.
Mafia took a quick 3-1 win and knocked Yoon down into the Loser Bracket Final where Suparmani (a relatively unknown but I believe he's high masters on NA) eventually met up with YoonYJ once again it was a tighter contest Yoon eventually winning 2-1
Any now the Grand Final a rematch of the Gigabyte LAN from the week previous, Yoon managed to take the first series 3-2 taking the game into a 2nd bof5 (and I was getting hungry by this point ). The 2nd series was just as tight but Mafia proved too strong once again taking this series 3-1 and YoonYJ once again took home a silver medal.
Replays and VODs of some of the more exciting games will no doubt emerge over the next few weeks but for now I leave you with some photos.
