I've been reluctant to ladder much on NA, because I tend to find their players to be a lot cheesier than other servers, as well as having extremely bad game manners. This blog is just to show what happened in the last game I played...

It was vs a Terran player called TandemFelix. Basically he 1based the entire game, said very early on when I 15hatched that I was overdroning, and just does marine tank drops all game long. Because I didnt have many bases due to him 1basing, I wasn't able to get a very high muta count so it felt like a weird game.

I think the most interesting part was when I did a baneling bust after seeing he had no tanks at his main, killed a heap of scvs then retreated to attempt to defend a drop he did in response. I probably should have just sacced my natural and killed off his main and all his scvs, but I wanted to ensure he didn't have any chance in the game, and making all his attacks do almost zero damage is one way of achieving that.

So clearly, he played really badly, just 1basing the entire game even after seeing me take a gold expansion, because he believed I overdroned. Heres the replay for anyone interested: http://www.sc2sea.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=492

Then, after getting crushed he calls me a ****** and leaves. Right after the game, I tried messaging him and saw he'd blocked me. Heres a link to the screenshot.

Not only that but the last 10 game I've played on NA, at least 8 or 9 have been cheese. So, I play on NA to find opponents that just cheese and wont help me improve very much, but also blame others for their mistakes and retain their bad gameplay for extended periods of time. The only reason I've laddered on NA recently is to have practice outside of SEA ladder, so as to help my progress on SEA. But I cant really see how this improves me that much.

Also, feel free to send some interesting PMs to TandemFelix on TL if you want. Heres his public profile: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/prof...er=TandemFelix

yeah, NA is terrible, I got plenty of bm during beta.

If you want very good and different style ladder experience outside sea, come join me on EU.

Tbh, I've found that the korean server is a really good training grounds for me personally. I've been playing on it using the 7 hour guest pass I got from sc2sea, and Im definitely buying an account there. No one I've vsed has done any builds that they just made up, they clearly are all attempting to used builds they've seen or learnt elsewhere. Even if they dont do the build properly every game, I find it much more realistic to try to read builds that are actually viable in the game rather than what someone thinks might be viable. Yet another reason why Im going to cut my activity on NA down a bit.

SatuSPR (Zergtastic? ),

I agree that playing vs conventional builds is good practice, but playing against creative non-standard stuff is very important too. It stress-tests your ability to adjust and transition between builds, also puts stress on your scouting info and build reading.

I remember a game from 2 weeks ago, a PvT on Shakuras. I scouted fast double gas with cutting probes, and 1 rax + supply wall off at natural. To say the least, I was puzzled. I thought it's some kind of heavy banshees, so I did a very safe 3-gate, and pumped out obs and some stalkers. Turned out he did a funky fast factory+tech lab into siege tanks, then pulled probes off gas and expanded to natural. He ended up with very fast wall of siege tanks and a handful of marines. No need to mention my blink stalkers and late expo were of no use, and he did a classic TvZ-ish tank marine contain later.

I have re-worked my opener since then to allow for better transition. Last week I found out I ended up very close to Elfi's opening.

There are plenty of bad mannered players on SEA as well, same on the korean server and also the european. Most of the sc2 players are immature kids, do not expect to be treated like a king when you're playing..

And most of the people I play vs are very mannered and I rarely play against cheese. Also most importantly, you get to play against different people all the time, there is less chance to get the same guy over and over again. This makes the practice much better in my opinion, you are forced to scout a lot more and you have to think more than usual. Atleast I do. Whereas on SEA it is just 100% blindcounter from start to finish.

play more, get better, more gg more skill..............!

I agree that its better to train with a higher variance of player styles. Thats why I wont be playing on NA as much anymore. I was playing on NA a fair bit because I believed the difference in styles was quite a bit, and that the players were potentially better than that of SEA ladder. I might not be at a high enough level, but I dont believe being cheesed every second game helps as much as playing more macro games instead. If I lose to the cheese every game then clearly there are problems to fix but if Im winning against the cheesy builds a lot and understand how to counter them, then I dont see the point in trying to refine that part of my game when I can be refining weaker parts of my game.

I probably won't stop laddering on NA, just lower the amount I play on it. Not mainly because of the BM, thats just the cherry on the cake tbh.

Also, it could be possible people at your level of play possibly play differently, sounds like they dont do blind cheeses every game with bm despite the end result ;P

I actually disagree Satu (Zergtastic?), I really think that more BM players have been lurking on SEA lately, especially at the Plat-Diamond level. Every second game I get bad mannered on SEA and most of the time I don't get GGs. However on NA I get to play against a wide style of players and get a GG most of the time!

I also get 1base-all in'd a lot by zerg on SEA, which is really annoying.

I don't get BMed really on SEA... jsut every single player whines about balance when I beat them, especially protosses these days. I get that protoss is doing poorly in the GSL, but it's no excuse for you trying to expand late, and do 2 tech routes at the same time and complain that Terran is OP, and I have no skill when I see this and punish you.

NA is cheesy as hell, though... :/

You cant just stop playing on a server because some 12 year old douche bms you. Your going to find bm players in every server its not just NA, I cant remember the last time I got bm'd on NA the higher rank you are the less bm there is!

Re: NA is so bm

As everyone has said, it really depends on your luck of the draw.

Just a few nights ago on SEA in Diamond, I faced this Zerg who said his ZvZ was good. He proceeds to 10 pool fail (I opened the safe 14/14 speedling-baneling, and after he scouted my pool he expanded (?) and thus insta-loss to my banelings and he quits.

After (and during )the game, he accuses me of Maphack and hence 'changing my build' whatever that means. He insists I did a 13 pool when I saw his 10 pool even though I told him to check Match History for my Build Order and just says I maphacked and cheated

BM is everywhere

He probably does this to almost everyone if not everyone he loses to so he will feel better about himself. It's really lol.

This one time someone on SEA accused me of maphacking after a long macro that i barely won, and after calmly explaining all the flaws and redundancies in his logic he just kept saying "I don't know how you did it, you just did." Like wtf?

Hey,

I've been trying to be active on both servers the last couple of weeks, and I'd say the BM in NA isn't that much worse than in SEA. The number of people GGing in recent months has definitely declined on both servers - but I haven't run into too much in the way of abuse.

Also, I wouldn't call cheese BM persee, its a strat that you have to be ready for and try to scout IMO. Both servers have a fair amount of these.

One thing I have noticed is that players on SEA at my level (plat) tend to try being inventive with builds, while players on NA are generally following stricter build orders. Has made it easier to scout on NA, but it also means their builds tend to be a bit more efficient.

Re: NA is so bm

I usually go on NA to play against a lot of cheese and many different non conventional builds, it helps if you can play against everything.. but I much say that there is a lot of BM in the NA server but once you get used to their cheese style it really helps with you noticing the finer points in their builds and once you completely demolish their attack, you get the joy of listening to their BM trying to redeem themselves by saying you map hack or your just bad~

Doesn't that make you feel like a god against them! Many times when they BM you and you want to talk to them afterwards they'd block you or leave the game that means whatever you did you did it well and anything he says won't make him win against you!
