What led me to make this post was the introduction of PDCL (Platinum Diamond Clan League). Well, there were other precipitating factors but this was the trigger I suppose.
If you didn't know my history, I was previously in Diamond league and I started playing more everyday and made a push to hit Masters. I even documented my process in a mini-series 'Road to Masters', which have led to minor spinoffs and even spoofs.
I did eventually hit Masters, but that also signaled the end of my laddering - I more or less stopped playing on ladder as it was never my aim to hit GM and be an inspiration to all like Shortizz (grats on your recent popularity ) ; I was just playing the game for the fun of it, and to keep myself sane. (I get restless if I don't game)
In 2 consecutive seasons subsequently, I merely played one placement match each, and both times they placed me in Masters league once again, despite my inactivity.
Current Situation
I am in Masters league in 1v1, but I have not touched ladder for about 2 months as I was playing another game. I've just recently come back to playing, but I would say my skill level is at about .. plat/diamond?
And now I'm just feeling sad because I have not many options for tournaments I can join.
Masters Cup ? Anyone who knows better can tell you that the skill difference between bottom and top Masters itself is already pretty big. GM league? Even bigger. The top tier of players are far superior than the bottom.
To successfully compete and have any success, you're going to be needing to put in significant game time (as shortizz said, 15 games a day!) which I can't afford - i can at most average 6 a day. This doesn't even include the time spent on theorycraft, getting tips, etc etc which is more or less required to climb the steep curve here.
It is not as if my skill level magically jumped up a notch when I hit Masters. I am still the same player, probably worse than before. It's a common occurrence that diamonds beat low Masters. It doesn't seem right that I am excluded from GPDs or PDCL just because of this new 'status' I've gained when I hit Masters.
Of course, I know the reasons for this rule. There has to be a rule, to ensure some form of regulation. They can't be making exceptions for lower level Masters players as this is bound to get fuzzy and controversial.
I want to join GPD. I want to join PDCL. But I am denied this because of a certain Star I have in my profile.
I shouldn't have hit Masters.
I think playing with better players will still help you improve even if you only can play a few games a day. Not to be offensive or anything but if you're really as "bad" (pardon!) as you think you are you will get demoted (pardon again...) and be able to play in all those tournaments again.
If you do well then you can view it as improvement
Thanks Crazerk! It really takes alot of time to get into GM league. But once u get there you can just play a few games a day to ''maintain'' and keep ur hands sharp! So pick a period when you would have time to make a solid push and then u can sit back on it like ur doing in Master league right now!
Just lose a bunch and get demoted. If you don't need masters league, get rid of it. You aren't a gayladin with full tier, who just got it to dance at AH or mailbox.
...o wait...

Re: I shouldn't have hit Masters
@next_rim Lol -_- But anyway, I don't think tournament organisers will see too kindly if my match history showed me Loss farming
@the rest
An honest assessment of my skill level ATM would be of low diamond-ish? I'm beating most (95%) high plats w ease, not getting many diamond matchups tho (prob cos the acct I'm on is at Gold =x)
Oh Lemminks (diamond or masters can't rem) played w me when I just came back, he said I was gold level Zerg LOL.
I think I'll do just that, train against diamonds abt 3 games a day, ladder 3 games a day. Any takers? Heh
Hello ! I'd have the same experience with you , once i hit masters on June , i'd stop playing . Lost most of my games and felt restless . Up to now then i'll come back . Good luck in getting back to the game
I quit BW for years and within a week or two was back to where I was. In my experience it's a brutal slog to get better at Starcraft, but once you've attained a certain level maintaining it doesn't take so much work.

Re: I shouldn't have hit Masters
not buying it? In the random occasion when I get Zerg (I'm laddering w random now) I still lose the occasional matchup, esp against toss . Deathball a click is hard to beat (I use it as Toss too, so it's not purely a Zerg- QQ moment.)
all the best in ur venture for demotion mate ^__^ but i reckon... MMRatings will take sometime before they really demote/promote you.... so be patient..
