It's 6AM here in Adelaide bored i want to write something i have written 3 drafts the first about my laziness the second debating whether Bach or Chopin was the better composer and the third on a misogynistic point of view i have formed recently (no doubt full of ignorance and stupidity don't worry i am trying to convince myself of the contrary) none of them i really consider complete and i doubt i will complete in this state so i decided to be meta and write about writing.
Okay i have something, a question i have been pondering recently, is ignorance stupidity? I am of the opinion that not all ignorance is stupidity for example you could forgive someone for not knowing the works of Peter Kropotkin but you couldn't forgive someone the ignorance of the civil war in Syria. Certainly people can be complacent in their ignorance which i believe is extremely unforgivable and therefore stupidity especially in this age where we have so much knowledge at our finger tips. As you can see its far from being a complete idea hopefully you lot can help what do you think? Thomas Gray said ignorance is bliss. Perhaps but only in the purist sense of the word.
I think we should have a sleepless spook forced underwater for as long as possible without him dying. Pull him out and make him type out whatever happens to be in his head at the time. I feel like secrets of the universe may actually be solved.
I actually have a lot to say about this topic and it greatly irks me when people associate ignorance with stupidity given circumstances. We are ALL ignorant about something. Just because you know about one topic that I don't doesn't make you more intelligent than me, and me knowing more about 1 subject doesn't make me smarter than you. It is however, very easy, depending on the topic and how relevant it is in general society to be called stupid for being ignorant about it.
Personally I give about 0 fucks in politics and any political discussion I typically say what I feel, admit I don't know a whole lot, but still voice my opinion because I feel it has a small amount of merit and generally just to let people know my feels because I'm like that.
To call me stupid about something as common as politics frustrates me however because I also know just about every in and out about health and nutrition and training which is just about your entire world, since if you don't have a body you literally cease to exist, and I find it very strange when people are ignorant about their bodies. So Depending on your views of what you think is important you will find annoying when people are ignorant about such topics.
So pretty much to summarize, ignorance is pretty much just like everything in life. It's way to dependent on your point of view, where you come from, what you find to be valuable, and is way to broad of a term and way to undefinable for anyone else' opinion to be a true representation of what or who you are. Only your own view of yourself is what really matters at the end of the day and regardless of what you do someone is always going to disagree with it and call you an idiot.
One of my favorite quotes from a comedian whos name escapes me now is "I'd much rather be friends with a nice dumb **** than an intelligent asshole any day of the week" and I have to agree with him.
Ignorance is bliss. Who wants to be told how stupid they are because they don't know everything about every topic ever. The only caveat I'd add is ignorance is bliss as long as you aren't actively hurting someone, in a position of power where you're ignorant about issues that affect your position of power, and any other extenuating circumstances where its obviously a bad thing to be a dumb ****.
Ignorance is bliss! Think about those small villages where people simply survive every day. The communities are known to live happier communal lives and if you asked them about the war in Syria they wouldn't even know where it is. Would you call these people stupid because of this? I think uneducated or simplistic is the better description.
For instance If I could do nothing but drink rum and go fishing I would not care about anything.
I just get annoyed when people would rather inform themselves about what paris hilton had for lunch rather than something at least potentially more useful (you know, if they're going to choose to be informed about anything at all)
Aristotle said: "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it"
Pretty much sums up how I feel. You're ignorant if you don't know about a topic, you're stupid if you don't know about a topic and refuse to change your ways.
