Near the beginning of July, I happened to basically get my index finger crushed in a stupid accident, leading to me being unable to really play any starcraft. Fortunately, I was still able to watch most of the tournaments that happened in the past few weeks, and what better way to make the viewing experience more exciting than by adding in a little stake to go with it! After skimming through the article on betting on this site, I decided to put in 50 euros (which after conversion came out to around 83 SGD) into my pinnacle account and began betting.
At the start, I just casually went with my heart, betting purely based on who i wanted to win, instead of who I believed would win ... which didn't go too well at all ...
And there went my capital. Unwilling to just give up like that, I put in another 50euros for 1 last try. I decided to put in a little more thought before betting and also made use of statistics like current form and past history of players involved. And with some luck...
It was a mixed experience as on good days I could win hundreds and similarly on bad days I could lose as much if not more easily. I noticed a few trends throughout my first month of betting:
All in all, it was a really fun month, which contributed to a new and unique experience while watching games as I found myself more invested than I was previously. I hope you enjoyed reading the blog as much as I did sharing it, and perhaps encourage you to try out betting occasionally for yourself!
Disclaimer: Do bet within your limits. For me, every bet I place I am prepared to lose. This is just a recreational activity and thus do not spend any money that you cannot afford to lose on this! Disclaimer 2 by nirvana -Read our Guide to Pinnacle Starcraft betting here.
you should really put in a disclaimer telling people to bet responsibly!
always set a limit of how much you want to lose. instead of how much you are thinking of winning!
i've got and uncle who was in debt for more than 30 years because of gambling, and the amount of strain he puts on his brothers and his own family was quite terrible to watch.
Nice! I was thinking of doing some betting on some sc2 games, after reading darkforce's blogs it sounds pretty fun and would get me more invested in certain series and games. did you end up being up much money?
thanks cyanide should have remembered to do that! added a few words in.
wally i ended up being up around 900sgd or so at the end of july after which i withdrew most of it so i wont be tempted to keep on betting bigger and bigger haha.
Thats exactly how I started off betting too. I lost my first 100$ that I put into pinnacle without winning a single bet. I eventually put another 50$ in, determined to earn back whatever I've lost. After tons of research, I made a spreadsheet on players winrate vs race, winrates on maps, etc. And also put tons of effort into studying the playstyles of players, never betting on games with players I don't know about. I ended up being up about 2k SGD after a few months, winning about 75-85% of my bets. I withdrew everything to buy an aftershock laptop. I haven't been betting recently though, keeping the spreadsheet up to date takes too much effort. Betting on E-sports can be good money, provided you put in a considerable amount of effort to research about players. If you bet blindly with the "I think he's gonna win" mindset, prepare to lose everything.
Betting can be fun but addictive. Whatever you spend betting u must be prepared to lose them. Never bet on credit thinking u are going to win and get everything back. Set a limit for yourself and have plenty of self-discipline.
Hope your finger is all better now
