Well.... being from Canada i had a hard task to wake up at around 4:50AM EST to be ready for the 8PM Aussie time for the tourny. 5AM rolled around and i was ready to go.... with whatever energy a father of a 9 month old can have. (Little dude woke up around 2am so i had to make sure he fell back asleep lol).
I had a bye from the round of 32 into the round of 16.
My first match was v against Alty24. It was a good exciting match, lasted about 20 minutes. I put on early pressure, but started to loose ground. I was able to get my natural and a 3rd base working towards a 4th when i was able to do a 2 pronged attack (my style of fighting is mostly compared to guerilla warefare... which i think is a lot of fun to pull off). Which got me in the lead and overall win.
Now i am in the round of 8.
Exciting!! it was now 5:40am and the start of my first quarter finals match! I was placed against Buu aka Striker. My first actual "tournament" stream i've been on since 2005 when i played pro Halo 2 in MLG. Again this was another v match up. After pulling out a quick surprise attack in Striker i clearly had the advantage, but i got over confident and forgot to have some Defense at home which he quickly exploited. This was a crazy game in which i heard the casters had a lot of fun doing. Overall i lost the first game due to my own faults of playing hard not smart. Muties/lings vs hydras/roaches/lings did not work out in the end for me.
Game 2 of the BO3 with my pick of Daybreak... One of my favourite maps in which i am 5-1 in ladder on. Up to this point in playing on the SEA/NA servers combined i am 20-3 v on ladder overall i am 24-5 including customs. Striker 10 pooled me and i caught his baneling nest thinking i might be able to get away with it... he burned me hard for my silly mistake and caught my secret expansion in bottom right. I told him though i was not going down without a fight and i would make it as painful for him as possible.... that he had to earn his win..... if i want to build any sort of reputation (friendly or competitiveness) my opponent will have to fight inch by inch... I do not give up easily even looking towards my inevitable demise. Overall i made a small comeback, but it was not enough to Striker's quick attack from the beginning of the game. I however have earned his respect as a player and hope to play him again in the future.
To Pandarine running the tournament.... did a swell job and was friendly towards the outsider (me being the canuck). and to the casters who made it really fun to watch the stream (lol thanks for the gollum impression introductions... good laugh!).
Overall having a wife and son now life gets a lot more complicated, but i feel i can now have my moment of zen and peace when i wake up for these 5AM tournaments... it's my own personal time from the rest of the world before the day begins... and what a better way to start it off by playing people on the other side of the world.
To my opponents today... many gg's and wp's.... and hope to see you all again in the future
And so ends my first blog post on the forum.... hope you had a great read!
Was a fun game against you dude, that early pressure really ruined my econ based strat :P Hopefully see you at the next BSG, more friendly faces the better
Lol im working on it. I'm doing pretty well win % wise vs zerg... i guess i am having more challenging opponents so i have to evolve my strategy if you will :P
Haha ya i do it to my wife all the time SHE HATES IT SO MUCH!!!! although im more well known for my chewbacca impression everyone at WCG calls me chewie.
