Glade posted in the IeSF signup thread that he was getting better ping to NA than SEA, and a few people shared his view. I would be very interested in getting some data on this (not opinions, but raw facts), so i'd like to get some peoples tracert information

How do you do this?

Press Windows Key + R
Type 'cmd' -> Enter

This opens a dialogue box. Type in:
tracert 202.9.67.254
This will run the tracert. Take note of the ping at the last hop. This is for the SEA server

tracert 12.129.202.154
Record the ping in the last hop here too, this is the NA server

Then post in this thread with your Location and ISP, for example me:

Sydney - Telstra ADSL2
163ms - SEA
160ms - NA

Thanks guys

You have to be kidding man? O_O Telecom spikes and has a consistent ping of at least 350-400 for me atm to SEA and NA is averaging about 220 ish.

Might get more accurate results waiting until the weekend (peak) before doing this. Traffic is at an all-time low during the weekdays! Food for thought.

Re: Speeds to NA and SEA

numbers are last hop, but since my last hop is usually not the slowest, I also give you highest delay observed.

Sydney TPG 6 pm weeknight
SEA 181 (197)
NA 161 (222) (although average numbers where lower than SEA)

I tend to get more network spikes (as measured using sc2's in-game monitor) on SEA than NA though.

Adelaide - Telstra Cable.

SEA: 183 ms
NA: 182 ms.
KR: 180 ms.

Decided to add KR in just for the curious.
This was only for today; but usually NA goes around 165-190ms, while SEA goes 170-200ms. KR's about 170-190 ms.
Everyone uses net at my home and sometimes I do get spikes on all three servers of around 230 ms or so.

Re: Speeds to NA and SEA

Perth - iiNet Naked DSL

SEA - 240-245ms
routes from perth to sydney then to singapore, which accounts for the extra 60ms over sydney pings of ~180
shouldn't this go from perth to sg direct, I believe there is a submarine cable...

NA - 230ms (also goes via sydney but this is to be expected)

***

Testing from work, to see if it's any better.
Perth - Amcom Fibre 150Mbit

SEA - 205ms (tracert goes perth>adel>melb>syd>sg ??)
NA - 204ms (still better than SEA)

So not much better.
