Hey guys,

So I'm new to the site and am not sure if this is the right place to be putting this but if not let me know and i will put it elsewhere. I have been playing Starcraft 2 since December and having not played any real RTS multiplayer before was inevitably put into bronze league. I made it to the top 9 of my division at the highest point but was never able to move up a league. I've heard that its hard and you just need to keep winning etc so i will just keep that up.

Recently i started playing the NA server and was placed into gold league. So for now i will be trying to get out of bronze league and maintaining gold status on NA server. Any ideas on how to get out of bronze would be great but until it happens i will keep blogging on here (i hope that's how this blog will work) about progress and any ridiculous matches i have. I will try keeping it to one post a week but we will just have to wait and see.

Until next time,

Re: The Journey Out of Bronze

Pretty much just perfect your macro.

In lower leagues, the main reason why you lose (Ignoring cheese) is because of your macro.
Having more stuff than your opponent will give you all the advantage you need to win in bronze.

Good luck

Re: The Journey Out of Bronze

So last night i continued playing, focusing on macro and it was going good on SEA Server. I got my bonus pool back to 0 and ranked up to 12th i think. I thought i would give it a go on the NA Server to try my luck. I lost two games in a row to cheese and was dropped to silver league. This annoyed my a lot. Now i have to try and get back up to gold or higher. Do i just keep at the macro in this case or should i be working on practicing micro and more strategies as i get into gold+.

Let me know,

Macro is a good thing to focus on, however I also found that it was important (at a silver/gold level) to start practicing and perfecting build orders. I recommend that you try this, and perhaps look at having a few games with practice partners occasionally to progress your skills.

Hey guys,

I just wrote this whole post and hit the wrong button and deleted it -.-" so ill try again.

So tonight after finally getting somewhere through my assignments for uni i decided to have a bit of a practice session against AI (because im yet to find a training partner/someone to learn off) to practice my favourite build that i find works against all races but mostly terran and protoss. The 2/3 Gate Robo build. I love it! its easy to get going and doesnt require extremely fast or precise timings. I wanted to get the timings better however so of to Single vs AI i went and got it down to a time i was happy with and a unit mix that i was confident to push out with.

I thought that this would be a good warm up for a few ladder matches tonight, i mean why practice then not put the practice to use? I played like 6 games and lost 4 of them, mostly to Terran. This was getting to me a lot so i started thinking what i was doing wrong. I had been working on my macro (thanks System) and had been started to use sentries and practice my build (thanks TAparoxysm) so i thought to watch a few of the replays from the opponents view, see where i was losing the game and if there was any opportunites i had missed. In each game i was being over run by the opponent, not because of really bad macro but just that they were at my base with better macro before i had moved out.

I decided from the replays that there was a good timing to push out when my first stalker sentry and zealot had finished and warp-gate was finishing close to this time too so i could reinforce/ continue pressure if i like or lower the worker count of the opponent and mass my army with immortal/colossus for the later attack. so i went back in to ladder with this in mind and i was greatly surprised that it worked! i had got into the base of my opponent and killed his marines but because of reactors i lost the last of my units before i could reinforce but this was enough. I built my army a little more and went back on the attack. He was behind because he had to make units fast for fear of another attack where i was able to macro safely and make workers/expand. I went in again and over ran the player easily.

From all this i learned to watch my replays when i lose and don't understand why. I'm the only one who watched the game so i must be able to find what went wrong. I also learned that early pressure is good and not to be scared to poke around with the first few units, All the pros do it so why shouldn't it work for me. Hopefully what i learned tonight will help me on "The Journey Out of Bronze".

So that's my rant for the night, this is somehow turned into one of my favorite things to do every night. So much for once a week posts. I'm not sure if people are still reading or even subscribed but it would be great to know that there are people willing to read what i have to say and help me learn. 122 views on my first ever blog and even replies shows that the SC2 community is a great group of people to be around and i appreciate anyone reading this and giving me advice.
