Today I attended my first ever lan event, the barcraft nz tournament 'battlecraft' or something along those lines. Absolutely fantastic event, and its set the bar quite high for other lans to follow, in the rest of this blog I'm going to do into more detail about how I did/what it was like ect, whilst trying to keep my thoughts as coherent as possible - which may be a challenge.
So basically I woke up at around 8 ish to wander down to midcity where the lan was being held. As it happens, my friend and myself showed up at the wrong blooddy mid city, fortunately we'd allowed plenty of time and the other 1 was only a 10 min or so walk away.
We got there at about 9 40 isn, and I began trying to configure my pc to match that of my mac, which took like another 30 mins. awesome.
I finally got it working just after 10 and got ready to play my first game, a ZvT against a diamond terran player. I did a dodgy roach bane attack each game which won the game fairly easily. I recieved a walk over for my next game so I proceeded to play IrisFresco in my final group game match. Overall I went 6-0 in my group which was nice but in my eyes not exactly unexpected.
In round 1 of the double elimination bracket which followed the group stage I played a Zerg player who is master on na and I was actually quite nervous going into this. Despite focusing on my ZvZ for the past 2 weeks I still felt i was my weakest match up by a long shot. Fortunately after a 2 base roach attack by my opponent, and the infmous targa bane build by myself, i was able to 2-0 Hydrus in the first round of the winners bracket.
This is where it got tricky.
At this point I was in the wb final playing IrisPetraeus, who many of you will know as the person who recently 2-0'd ender and beat Jaz to qualify for the Tokyo game show qualifiers. Pet has really strong zvz, and as its my weakest match up I was again really nervous going into this.
In g1 I forgot my lair, and pet opened with his muta build, not having infestors out in time basically led to me being outplayed in this game. G2 is where stuff got interesting. Again pet opened with his muta build but I executed my build quite well, held off his bane aggression and his mutas quite well and it led to me having better tech in infestors and have, a 3rd, and an upgrade advantage. This translated into a win, and at this point I was buzzing, I've never taken a game off of pet before, so to beat him was such a confidence boost, and for it to be a macro game aswell, all the better.
G3 of the WB final was more or less me failing targa banes big time, so I lost that =p moving on!!!!
In the losers bracket final I played Fresco once again, 3 hatch bane g1 and my 7 pool build g2 led to a confortable victory, and also playing pet once again in the grand finals.
I cant remember what happened in g1 if the grandfinals, I believe it was on cloud, but im not exactly sure. G2 again made things a bit more tense. I really want to say g2 was played on Ohana but alcohol is messing with me, what I can say is that I had, nvm yea this was Ohana, he want muta, I held it perfectly by my standards (due to some tips by a certain practice partner), and proceeded into 3-3 ultras which, btw, are fooken amazing. Words can not describe how amazing it was to actually take games off of pet, his ZvZ is really really good, so for these 2 series to be somewhat close, was such a confidence boost. So I won g2, g3 I was feeling good, I felt as though if I didn't do a gimmiky build i was in with a chance.\
Daybreak was the map and I was feeling good. I scouted what pet was doing with my first 2 lings, double evo roach, so I opened with more or less my standard opening, except with a shit load more drones as I expected him to be playing macro and be taking a 3rd. Up until what I guess was the 13 min mark isn, I was playing really well, and had pet pushed back to his nat, pretty much unable to defend his 3rd.
Unfortunately at this point I'd forgotten 2-2, a cardinal sin with the style I currently play ZvZ, and on top of this my hive was late aswell. Pet took control of the game at this point as he had 2-1 roaches and I'd overcommited to my roaches, which were stuck at 1-1. There was a bit of back and forth at my 3rd but ultimately he hit before my 2-2 finished and also before my ultras popped.
GGWP 2nd place at my first lan and you know what. I was feeling good, taking games of someone you've never beaten before just feels really good. What happened after this was a an interview or 2, some pics with pet the sex monster, and then heading home for a rest before the up and coming barcraft that night (tonight, today, last night ECT)
For those of you that know pet as a shy player, not anymore ^.^ talking with everyone, was nice to see.
Greg (Fresco) and myself taught Pet a few Japanese phrases for his trip to japan in a couple of weeks, such as standards such as "my name is Pet or Watashi wa Pet desu" and also "Watashi wa chinko no ooki desu, which I won't translate because yea, but the japanese girls will love it, I'll just leave it at that.
Anways, overall, really enjoyed my first lan, it set the bar quite high for the next 1, hopefully I'll be able to clinch first with my ever improving zvz, All the best in Japan Pet, I'm sure you'll love it. And finally I hope this blog was somewhat enjoyable to read, hopefully somewhat coherent so Yup, g'night ladies and gents.
Im going to sleep.

Edit: I'm not sure whether its alcohol or the fact that i like dancing to gangnam style which decided to make me get up on stage and dance infront of like 100 people at the barcraft later. ohwell. had fun. all that matters. also was a deciding factor in my team winning the sc2 bar quiz thing that resulted in a 50£ bar tab. MORE BEER. **** YEA.
Edit 2: Did you know that the ******* medivac portrait is like used out of someting from aliens, as in the movie....like what in the actual ****, how can an someone be expected to know that. it was a bit unfortunate that i didnt believe the person in my group that actually said aliens. lucky guess.
Good night gents, Savior out - to wake up in the morning to realize the abomonation that i've written.
Edit3:???? so I can't sleep, just to make sure its clear so overall I came 2nd going 12-4 overall, 1-2 1-2 to pet in wb and grand finals.
Shoutout to my ZvZ practice partners Fenner and Inte, really appreciate you guys helping me.
