I am thinking of buying a camcorder to use in documentary / guide travel videos I will be making. Of course I will be using it on holidays and SC2 events too! The video function on my dslr was really terrible, looked low quality and took up so much space. Any advice?
I am leaning towards the black HERO3 now and will probably be getting it if nobody has any other recommendations. This video made by it looks amazing.
That video was damn amazing. I reckon that you have found your purchase
I've whipped up a quick checklist for you after you have made your purchase. All you need now is the ability to:
Skydive (with and without ski's)
Mountain bike
Ski (off the top of a fresh snow mountain)
Surf
Scuba dive (with access to whales and impressive looking females in bikini's wearing mono fins)
Fly a helicopter
Kayak (incl. off a waterfall does)
High speed motorbike racing
most likely your settings were off. It records in HD format, and i've tried the recording function before. It wasn't grainy at all.
i'll try and remember to pass you a book on how to use the 500D, I believe it was the first canon dslr to have the video function. I doubt it'll differ too much from the 600D
GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition has spectacular quality. Especially for sports. That being said I feel that Dslrs are better for anything that isn't sporting or things involving water. For example the GoPro is near perfect for underwater filming especially for the price in comparison to the a few thousand dollars that would be spent on a good waterproof housing. I think for documentary videos a dslr would be a lot better than a GoPro but the GoPro would be a lot more accessible and easier to set up.
