Do you ever experience those moments in games when one thing goes wrong, no matter how big nor small, it happens and all of a sudden you find yourself in a rather precarious position and you just don't know what to do. Now I don't know if this is just me, but it near on scares me when it happens, especially if it's in a tournament. :P
If my sc2 "life" is considered a game, then yes, I know exactly what you mean.
Usually if that happens to me ingame I actually stop moving my fingers for a second, and sort out damage done and what I need to fix first - I start playing and while fixing that first priority think of a second priority. Hard to do at first but works well for me.
You'll end up using your gut instinct most of the time, since you're in the heat of the moment. If that's the wrong decision, then you can review those bad decisions, and think of alternatives after the game/after the mistake has been made, this strengthens that knowledge, so that in the future your "gut" instinct is much more precise, especially in the same situations that you've been in and reviewed.
Example: Have my marines on hotkey, and doing my A-move prior to splitting... except instead of amoving I accidentally right click, and ALL THE MARINES MOVE TOWARDS THE BANELINGS!!! Fun times.
Generally when I **** up, I just keep going with whatever action I was doing before, shit happens *shrug*
