Sorry for the corny name but I felt that it was fitting since it has been nearly to the day, one year since I have owned Starcraft. Although I haven't come too far, I still thought that it would be good to briefly look back at my life on SC.
I started off purchasing Starcraft from my local EB Games last year. At the same time one of my other friends also got it and although it was delayed (by a month) I had some mates over for my birthday. Toastyzeus and Boo watched as me and my friend battled in the most terrible game possibly imagined. I had been watching some streams before I got the game so I had a little advantage of actually knowing what each unit did. Played a couple of ladder games that night and placed in
After about 20 ladder games through the next week and a half as Protoss, I decided that I was going to playing as Zerg. After a 55 minute long match against a Terran player that was on 2 base (one being hidden) I finally came out on top. For the sake of letting whoever wants to watch it I uploaded it here. Just saying that I was shredding my keyboard with an amazing 20 APM and it may be a little hard for some people to keep up. Also comes with my comments of disappointment Link
For about 8 months I was swapping between playing Starcraft and League of Legends. I really regret playing League. It's not that its a bad game, it's just that its got a terrible community. I only just recently played a couple of games with Venom, SmotPokingFish and Toast, and although that its fun... the comments like 'l2p' and 'uninstall' are really annoying. A little too much BM for my likings. I really wish that I had spent more time on SC instead of League because I feel like I could have comfortably been in
After deciding to quit LoL, I returned at the start of Season 2 of 2012 (I think) and made the decision to switch to Terran. I practiced and learned Drewbie's basic builds and when I finally felt comfortable I placed. I had to replay all of my 5 matches again since I skipped a season and played against 3 , 1 and 1 . I won against the bronze and silver players, but got absolutely crushed by the plat. It was so one sided it wasn't even funny, but still I managed to place in Platinum T.T Long story short I got pissed at being killed so I dropped my MMR till I got demoted to Bronze.
By the time I was in Bronze league, my rating was so low that it took me 30+ games until It put me up against top 8 bronze players and that was winning every match. I spent 2 weeks constantly playing until I got pissed that I wasn't promoted and stopped playing for a little. Also that is when DayZ 'happened'. I say it like it's a disease because like League, it stopped my from playing SC and the only thing I gained out of it is a 'oh shit its someone shoot!' attitude towards fps games.
Came back and got promoted, then played some more a got promoted again which has brought me up to date. It's getting late, and I just had most of the same guys that I had over the first night over again. We did exactly the same thing, eating the same brand of Party-Pies and Sausage Rolls, sitting around playing exactly the same games, 365 days later. Thought that it was appropriate for me to do an entry now to see how far that I have come. Also shows how terribly unorganized I am to have friends over for my birthday 1 month late 2 years running
I wrote this whole blog post in my head while I was cutting the grass today and also decided that I was going to swap races to Zerg. I never got the hang of it and only have 1 win which was my first. If I stick to one race I will improve much faster, but I am starting to lose site of what this really is. Starcraft is a game. I don't want to take it too seriously so I'm learning Zerg because I feel that It would be more enjoyable then if I was to keep playing Terran.
Toastyzeus ->
Boo ->
Patto ->
Hareprison -> inactive (just because of your comment Toast)
I only have 1 real worry though, and that is with ZvZ. That match up is going to be a bitch to learn because I hate Banelings. That might change as I learn to play but hopefully using them will be easier then splitting marines against them.
Bit of a long winded but brief history of me and Starcraft but hopefully that will grow into a story that is better for you to listen to. glhf -Patto
