Alright, so knew I was going today, planned to get a good night's sleep last night; instead went out, got home at 4:00, slept, woke up at 10:15. Thank god I packed my shit last night, bolted out the door, to the tram stop and got there in 10 minutes *whew*. Got there at around 10:27, no breakfast, thirsty and slightly hungover. Thankfully Dox decided to wait for a couple of players, so wasn't I late.
I set up, bought some orange juice and water, found the brackets, and played my first round against BookI, a Protoss player. I play random right? jk, apparently at MC that means Protoss 3 times in a row. Three PvPs later I emerged triumphant 2-1 (Note to self, remember that you can't 2 gate expand on TDA in PvP lolll). Finishing the orange juice, I found myself up against Kez.
Game 1 v Kez: ZvZ on Shakuras
I opened 14/14 speedling expand to Kez's 15 hatch. By building a wave of lings as speed finished, I managed to kill off three of Kez's drones, and kept him from mining at his nat for a while. I think he overreacted with the lings, as he decided to follow up with a ling bane assault. I held comfortably, and moved towards lair, roaches and infestors. I still had some lings left over, and used these to deny his third once while getting my own up. From spotting no roaches, I guessed he was going mutas and pulled my ovelords back (Spades level intuition yo ). Thankfully his mutas coming out coincided with my roaches getting to a decent size. I proceeded to march across the map, take out his natural, third and main queen while setting up spores/infestors. With a solid lead, the cleanup afterwards was simply a matter of playing safe. This was an awesome game for me, as I've been shitting my pants everytime I get ZvZ past few weeks Everything just seemed to work out well in lan conditions
Game 2 v Kez: TvZ on Ohana
I went for Thorzain's 15 gas expo into reactor hellions. Upon seeing he got a ridiculously fast third, I decided to pull all my nat SCVs to join my marauder hellion timing. I managed to kill the third, a number of drones, and a number of units, but had to give up the SCVs/army. Thankfully with 3 CCs I wasn't (hopefully, didn't watch replay) too far behind. I'd managed to get siege up before he reached me, and with 3 tanks I felt very safe. Then came the overlords. T.T With overlord drop, he managed to circumvent the choke, forcing me to pull back, at which point he marched into the natural and killed all those SCVs. I managed to throw back his assault and stabilise in poor condition, but future engagements just drove me into the dirt T.T
A LOT of work to be done on my Terran... I die to alot of things in TvZ and TvT xD
Game 3 v Kez: PvZ on Antiga
Openings were fairly standard, 17 nexus/forge/gateway vs fast 3 base. I opened stargate, with my first void ray + phoenix + 2 zealots killing 3 queens and a few overlordsbetween them. Unfortunately the void ray was brutally murdered (read: I left him with spores), and I was left with a stargate, robo, and 4 gates after doing very little economic damage. My PvZ has also been rather shite recently, so I decided: "**** a third base", *throws down 6 more gates*. I proceeded to chrono out 4 immortals, a void ray, a total of 8 phoenixes, and mass stalker/zealot off my gates. Around 140 food, I pushed out, and by the power of Protoss, won
No seriously, I think that's what happened lol. I guess from a zerg perspective... Well I saw he was getting a spire, so the phoenixes were purposely made to block that route. And then in the fight, being able to lift 9 roaches was a fair decent benefit... But yes, Protoss imba
So after winning against Kez, I think it was around 12/12:30ish, and I was starving. Unfortunately, the stream was waiting to cast the match between me and... deth.... ****.
Game 1 vs deth: PvT on Daybreak
So I have this thing where I get ******* NERVOUS around names I recognise. In light of this, I decided to pull out a build I hadn't in ages; the HuK 20 food expo into 4 gate pressure. Unfortunately, I decided not to build the zealot, which allowed deth to get down his ebay blocking my natural. As soon as this went down, I changed tacks to go for a straight 4 gate. deth pushed out just as the first wave was warping in, giving him time to pull scvs and get additional bunkers. I went for a big attack which was doomed to fail. I expo'd behind this, and tried to target down what I could with my stalkers. Rushing for chargelot archon, I thankfully managed to get my composition before deth's medivac pushout. I held his first push, and storms barely allowed me to survive the second. However, his third wave killed my army and I gged out as my third started to fall. I think I should've just gone for a delayed nexus... bugger.
Game 2 vs deth: TvT on Ohana
TvT... Well I just figured there was no way I was taking deth in a macro game in this mirror. So I decided to go for some weird proxy marauder play. Stupidly, I decided not to get a marine in my main, and so deth saw the first unit out of the barracks was a marauder.... *facepalm*. From there it was just deth bunkering up, me pulling back, him having a tech/econ advantage, and me dying ^^v
So at this point it was around 1:15, I bolted from MC and went to QV to grab some lunch/breakfast/FOODPLEASE. A refreshing hour later, I came back to find things slowed down. After around 15/30 minutes of watching people play, I prepped for my games against Pox.
Game 1 vs Pox: TvZ on Shakuras
I decided to go for the same build I'd gone for against Kez: 15 gas expo > delayed reactor hellions > fast third CC behind marauder hellion pressure. However, this game Pox went for fast 2 base muta... (WHO EVEN DOES THAT ANYMORE GRRRR oh wait I do ). As Zepph said on stream, my build was NOT well-timed, and I hit as his mutas were popping. I had 1 marine, and frantically threw down... 7? missile turrets. Unfortunately, my natural wasn't walled *facepalm*, and so I died to ling muta.... MOVING ON
(btw, apparently marauders make Zepph hot???)
Game 2 vs Pox: ZvZ on Antiga
Ah, so we both opened 14/14 speed expand, into macroing up. Pox decided to go for a +1 roach timing, which thankfully I was able to scout. Holding it off with roaches of my own and a slightly faster third, I felt confidently ahead. At this point I knocked down the rocks to his third, and attempted to take it down. I overextended here. Pox managed to pick off a few roaches, and I was forced to back off without killing the third. As I retreated, I began my macro cycle, only to hear the dreaded words "Our forces are under attack!" Looking at my choke, I see my roaches SURROUNDED by Pox's units T.T I ran back to my natural spines, and there pulled off the luckiest/clutchest fungals I've ever performed as my infestors spawned JUST in time. Eehan timing went through my head, but I still took some drone losses. After driving his roaches out, I built some more infestors and drones. That's what I get for not watching the minimap. I didn't realise Pox was nonstop streaming roaches, and I also did not realise we were 2/1 to 1/0. With better injects, economy, and constant reinforcement, Pox slowly ground me into the dirt.
After that I stayed to play some 2s with a mate. When I was done, it was game 1 of Techtron vs deth. I stayed to watch the rest of the tournament, and went home after Techtron and Pox's last games.
Well, today was fun fun fun I believe I came 5th/6th out of a pool of 16, which is better than I've done before. It was slightly disappointing though because I'd had hopes of placing top 3 (prior to knowing Techtron and deth were coming that is >.>). Overall though, it was great to have a LAN experience again. Also, getting to watch Techtron v. deth game 3, and Techtron v. Pox game 3 were great experiences. Shoutouts/his to everyone I met today, and hope you all had a great time too
Now to go ladder, or collapse... Will probably collapse while laddering :/
