Disclaimer: I have been meaning to actually get around to writing this for a while so the first few entries are going to be a little behind where i am at the moment.
Tonight I cannot sleep and I am getting crippling ladder anxiety and i also told QEDDeNile i would do this at some point as well. This can be considered as me just manning up and actually doing it rofl. The aim of this blog is to help give myself some structure and purpose in getting better at Sc2 and my general goal is to be a strong T4/T3 player in in a team league. And heaven forbid, i might actually enjoy writing it and when hell freezes over you might as well XD.
All jokes aside i get terrible ping to SEA - "But Maz you play on kr what's the deal? You're a shitty low league player, you can get just as good on SEA or NA." Well i am on optus and its retarded internet as it stands and for some magical reason, i get the best latency to Kr out of Na Kr and SEA. The connection to NA is lossier than my short term memory, and I may as well send carrier pigeon to SEA (about 700ms). Kr seems to be a half tolerable mix of the two.
Anyway for those of you who care here is a link to my Kr profile. I am Plat on SEA.
So let me start by saying i started out as a lowly dirt league player on SEA with little experience in AoE. I found i REALLY love this game and Worked my way up to TOP 8 BRONZE and felt like king shit bro. My build order arsenal was a Super slick 6pool and a mean 14g/14p/21h/somingthingintomaybeahatchhowaboutmutasshitilostto marinesterranop. (This was my general strategy for ages, even the time frame I am basing this blog in.) I then proceed to work on my shitty speed first build and get my way up to Plat, where i had one showing in a BSG where i got to Ro16 and that was about the extent of my mark on the Sc2 scene. And to cut a rather long story short, as a mid plat zerg i weaseled my way into QED () and bought myself a copy of Kr Sc2 which i later realized had better latency than my SEA accounts. So anyway i started laddering
and what i learnt on kr was;
I am chobo.
In fact, i am rather chobo.
So by some fluke I barely clammered onto my rank 85 in gold with a low silver/bronze MMR and learn that these guys play rather cheesy and allin. On SEA i had never really been exposed to this style of play, its so allin cheesy and unorthodox. I was losing so mcuh to this type of play and it was awful. So much so I was considering uninstalling the Kr client and throwing in the towel and just playing some clan matches on SEA. I was being beaten by stupid plays that were some of the most contrived, bullshit strats that i have ever seen. one of them being featured in a lesson i had with PiG where i lost with a 60~ odd drone lead. Getting double dropped by BFH etc etc...... But i prevailed and kept going (which i will cover in my next blog).
on the Kr ladder as this: yep. I am the red player. Wielding the keyboard with an iron fist. It appears iron fists don't type so well.
Oh and that base in the 11 o'clock position? That wasn't mined out by me.
ANYHOO!!! it BLATANTLY proved to me, the saying that us low level players are told over and over again - "Macro is everything" "you can do anything in the lower leagues with good macro" "Destiny massed queens up to plat because he had good macro" "Strategy doesn't matter in the lower leagues, you can still just get out macro-ed"
You see, they are all about execution. In most of my games i have come to realize that if i hold off that stupid allin/play, i will actually just kill them in the war of attrition. You see their Macro is about as good as
and their execution is better then having sex while riding a motorbike, playing starcraft. Because you know, average Friday evening >.>
I can count on one hand the matches that have gone for more than 20 minutes, and i generally only win at the +16 minute marker. Because they have no idea what the sd, s or e keys do when you have your main building selected.
I guess a more refined way of saying what i learned is this:
My openings are NOT solid and NOT the best for the said situation and that they DO NOT give me the leg up into the mid game that i need, and that my timings before the 7 minute mark are NOT Perfect, I DO NOT have a clear idea of how i am going to win the game and that i playing someone who has that part of the game PERFECTED. Its hard and it makes games feel very one sided and coin flippy.
Anyway i can see getting allin-ed all the time will be good for my play and I'll update you guys with part 2 soonish.
QEDMazaire.
Want to see my get pwned in the flesh? http://www.twitch.tv/Mazaire I also wrote this when i was very tired, if there are any editing/parts that make no sense let me know and i'll edit it ^_^
