Wow! My first time blogging after so long and my first sc2 blog post ever. This is purely my own personal opinion towards random players.First of all, I'd like to say that it is rude for players on ladder to ask this question to a random player ... " What's your race ? " Sometimes, I'd just answer, " Chinese " while sometimes, I'll just screw him up. If it's a friendly game, I don't mind to reveal my race but since that its a ladder game, I think I deserve my early game advantage as I need to learn builds of all matchups.
Many people think that random players are cheesers which is entirely wrong. I have to admit that I cheese a lot on ladder but let's not forget that I have won more macro games than those games that I cheesed. Let's not forget that I have won many games with carriers and motherships in the master league.
To conclude this post, once again, I'd like to say that asking a random player ON LADDER is rude and it is like asking someone " what is your build order " ? We all play to win on ladder whether it is by using joke builds or standard builds.
Totally agree, it's the random player's right to divulge race or not. I honestly do believe the disadvantage of having to learn 9 matchups either outweighs or is even to the advantage we get at the start of the game.... That is unless you cheese 24/7, in which case you are sort of asking for hate >.<
All that said, telling race makes the game more enjoyable for everyone (manner), and gives you the random player better practice in the matchup, so maybe you should consider telling more often
Spook, I can't remember because I have played so many games. My original acc is inactive and I'm playing under Millionaire and Rocco. Both accounts are active. Heha, by telling my race is a good way of practicing and I have no doubt in my ability to play as Zerg Terran or Protoss but As random , I know that most of my Protoss opponents won't forge expand against my Zerg and forge expand into gateway all in is so annoying and there is no clear way to counter even with roach ling n spines.
This made me lol: "Many people think that random players are cheesers which is entirely wrong." then straight away after "I have to admit that I cheese a lot on ladder..."
i dont think the person that asks your race is actualyl expecting you to answer, just trying it out. who knows, you may tell them. questions are free.

Ah, see the thing is, no one should believe you their first time playing you. The point is hopefully when you see them again, they'll know that you tell the truth and trust you .
Whenever I see a random player I always worry that it's a higher league player doing portrait farming, I've had so so so many of them, they either drop the game or i get smashed. Either way i check their history and report them if they are dropping games.
Edit: Forgot to add I don't think random players are cheesers I enjoy vsin' random.
Agreed with you Millionaire, playing against random force you to begin with an all around build and no super refined builds that gives you advantages you don't really earned with your play.
Playing random and trying to macro is really hard, that advantage of opponent not knowing for the first 2 minutes is really small compared to that.
