Road to becoming the best in SEA part 1 of many to come over the next few months(I guess? Years if I suck)

Hello everyone, I'm MrFool.439 and I'm back with a blog post following the previous one where I stated that my goal was to become the best in SEA! (Esp to those who have been reading my blogs consistently, you'll know me well enough or rather my background and how I've been doing in Starcraft II) Thank you all who have taken the time to read my blogs and respond to me, my blanters and rants, and actually giving me great support! It really helps me in staying with this game and trying to be as good as I can despite being and clanless atm! Thank you to those who find me lurking in random channels and congratulating me on GM / chat with me/ say hi/ and any other small little gestures that make me feel welcomed in SEA Starcraft II!

First of all! I would like to start by saying where in the world did I find such courage to blurt out such a bold statement of trying to be the best SEA while I'm still serving NS?! Argh! Only realising that it is indeed bold a goal after making it:P nonetheless! I will keep true to my words and try regardless of how little time I have due to National Service! Hope you guys will cheer me on while I'm on this quest of insanity!

Ok actually I'm writing this post while I'm commuting to 'work' (actually duty at tekong for those who understand:P) and I won't be around to practise for the next few days (up to 4-5 days) at all! That makes me really sad.. I feel that I can be much better of a player if I get to play more consistently and through a longer stretch of days instead of 1-2 days every now and then! But there is no choice NS is NS and it'll continue for another 12 months! Damn.. Definitely no chance at dox cup with such little training, but still gonna go there and bang my head on the wall:x

Alright! So I just got into GM league like.. A week ago? I haven't been able to play much but hell! GM league is so much different from any other leagues! The players are so active and it's crazy! I don't play for a few days and my ranking can drop up to 50 ranks? I lose a game/ win a game and ranking can change up to +/- 20 ranks! Such a volatile and competitive ranking league compared to any other in SEA! Amazing Yet, one of the reasons I'm still trying to adapt to this kind or srs bzness!

Next, time to rant about losses that shouldn't have happened!!!! I get angry with myself whenever I make such blunders , but I say 'gg' anyway!

1: Thank you zergling run-bys that requires me to be lightning fast in noticing the blips on my minimap and actually flexing my supply depots or dying.
2: No thanks to ultra-DT rushes which require me to guess the build by instinct if the protoss FFs his ramp indefinitely after my first scouting with SCVs ( I should've noticed with StarSense since the protoss was really anxious with the FFs and didn't even try in the slightest bit to FF a single marine or what not to try and kill free units). Something I need to train myself in!
3: ***** you late game TvP because it is so darn-ed hard to play it out as Terran!:P
4: Screw you MrFool for being a fool and throwing away games that you've been in a lead for by trying so hard to rush games till the end before you can capitalise on your advantage!
5: Blast you MrFool from running away from standard nice, crisp timings that you know well and losing battles because of that!
6: Stop being a fool MrFool and do the right things!-.-

Alright that's all for the ranting! So many games I could've won but lost it to reasons above and more (like disconnecing -.-.. Roughly 10 percent of my losses are due to disconnectsT.T)! Well but I guess losses are fine as long as I can watch through each game , or sometimes know my blunders without even watching through the games, and improve! And I would've been GM long ago if I didn't make such mistakes but I still do watch through my replays of losses because I spot more mistakes than when I don't watch through them! But hell do I get confused by some wins, amazed at how well some builds work so well against others that I watch through some games where I won! Gives me some motivation too whenever I beat some big names in SEA if I watch the replays going into games with confidence makes me so much better than going into games telling myself I'm gonna lose...

With that being said! I'm still trying really hard to climb the ladder bit by bit! My highest ever rank is 46 and it drops really fast sadly next rank to aim for shall be 30! shall hit my goal of being the best in SEA slowly and not trying to shoot for the moon straight away:P

Anyway I would like to share with everyone the recipe I had to making myself enjoy and love to play Starcraft II. I always had that fear of losing at ladder and not being able to spend enough time on the game because of that! With that, it stuttered my growth as a player a lot! Those who have read my previous blogs would have been familiar with my background in gaming.

Other than that, I find it really hard to vest my interest in the game because there was no compelling reasons to maake me come back to the game!

* Here's what I did! I invested in the game, trying to make myself play the game more!

1: I got myself a SC II kr/tw account
2: Bought GSL tickets (still doing It every month) to watch amazing games minus idiotic casting
3: Registered for 3 months TGM
4: Made my girlfriend play against very easy AI and actually teaching her how to play! Made me laugh a lot when she told me that she knows how to 'build more workers' and 'send workers to collect minerals' :P it made me enjoy the game more! ( Yea not 100 percent relevant to investing in terms of moneytary terms but still... )

Thus, with all the different investment I've made to the game, I've found my passion back into the game and have been playing a lot a lot more! The total games of 1v1 I've played this season has probably exceeded the amount I've played through seaso 1 to 3! What an accomplishment!

1- The SC II tw/kr account I've bought have not yet been in use and I'm planninng to use it only after I've done well in SEA and have made my foolish name
2- The GSL tickets have provided me with excellent games to watch and allowed me to learn a lot more that I could! The difference between top koreans and non-koreans because non-korean top replays are much easier to acquire
3- The TGM did help me but I guess in a different way than most others would have benefitted. From the TGM I realised that I knew enough to be a GM, I inherently knew almost everything in the TGM and also knew things not in the TGM. Thing is, I spent so much time watching SC II instead of playing that I've became imbalanced in terms of knowledge vs skill. That was what was holding me back, disallowing me from improving to becoming a good player, an . True to it, I got GM within 3 weeks of actively laddering, spending time playing and analysis loses of my own while serving NS.
4: Other than being happy that my girlfriend actually played SC II even for awhile, she actually listens to me telling her stories of how I beat professionals, big names of the games, encourages me and congratulate me! She doesn't watch me play ladder in fear that she'll disturb me, but has promised me that if I ever get to play on stage for any tournament, she'll definitely be there to watch me play!

All of the above has given me the urge to play, the motivation to push on despite some losings streaks and even add fuel to the passion that has been burning inside me for a long time for this game!

I'll definitely work hard to finally reach the top 16 of SEA ladder, best in SEA and more

I do plan to one day be a coach for the s of SEA who put up a hard fight against the swarm of SEA! But that will have to wait till I'm good enough for it! Just wait till I'm good enough

Alright, that'll be all for this post that I've written through a span of 12 over hours while doing duty, thinking and writing only when I have time (really busy you see)!

Thank you all for reading my blog posts and giving me all the support! I'll continue to work hard!

Signing off,
MrFool.439

Dont look too much into GM ladder ranking. It actually doesnt mean sheit when it comes to actual skill level. Im pretty sure anyone in the top 50 or even 100 can get into top 16 by just massing a ton of games.

But yeah, good luck!
