Many moons ago I intended to start writing a blog entry every few days about recent games I had played on my way to getting promoted to Diamond.
Real life issues as well as a lack of motivation saw to me not fulfilling that. After finally managing to get promoted to Platinum as well as being picked up by Clan FaDe I decided this would be round 2
I'll keep it short and sweet as the first one back and start by writing about one of each matchup. The first matchup of the day was a PvP on Metal against my very first diamond ladder opponent.
FaDeBadger v SFelix PvP Metalopolis
I still haven't really practiced anything other than 4 gate in PvP so for a while yet that will still be my staple build. Considering it has been a little while since I've played anything other than PvZ I think I pulled the 4 gate off fairly well.
My problem this game wasn't my execution, it was this little bugger.
Which inevitably led to this, just as I was warping in my units at my proxy pylon.
Needless to say with a wrecked mineral line I couldn't keep up the pressure at his base and he eventually overwhelmed me. GG.
FaDeBadger v Lqckesis PvZ Antiga Shipyard
Game 2 saw me get a PvZ (surprise surprise) on Antiga Shipyard.
For the record, I hate walling off a FFE on this map so generally I try to avoid it. I decided I was going to try a 1 gate into 2 gates on the low ground expo. It was sloppy, but considering it was the first time I had ever done it I was fairly happy with how it went.
I sent a probe into his base not long after I took my natural to try and find out what he was doing, it died to the masses of lings sitting outside his base. Common sense would have told me that after seeing that I might need some more cannons, and obviously not to move out.
Unfortunately I chose to ignore the signs and I pushed out with a group of sentries and some zealots. If I had control of the watchtower I would have seen this coming my way and I would have turned around.
My forces got surrounded by lings and taken out. From there it was a fairly straightforward road to my defeat.
FaDeBadger v Bottle PvT Xel'naga Caverns
The game started off as normal, not much else to do really. Once I scouted his base I saw my absolute favourite thing for a terran to do to me. Wall off.
My standard response to this is to throw down a stargate and another couple of gates and to go pressure. At the very least I will kill his 2 supply depots, maybe even the rax.
After looking at the replay I'm not entirely sure what he was doing, he got 3 rax, a factory and a starport all off one base. Nevertheless he happened to push out just as I started attacking his base and we got into a base trade situation.
Luckily for me he had put 2 techlabs down on his rax so my voids were always going to be the kings in this battle.
I had my proxy pylon and another pylon tucked away in Tasteless' secret hallway, and knew he was setting up shop in my natural so I pushed down with these armies.
And he had this base.
It's fairly obvious that I had a much stronger army, and as long as I wasn't stupid enough to lose my voids to the turrets I was always going to win this fight.
That's about all I've got for today, I'll be back over the next few days with some more installments.
Also, keep an eye out for another blog I have in the works.
