Hi I'm Stodd a protoss player. Some of you may know me for my 1 base shenanigans on ladder or for my rant blog on how broken zerg is. Today however i have important question to ask to the community of today.

First off a statement that will lead to my question. You see, i've been playing this game since early WoL days where warping on the high ground was possible and zerg's broodlord infestor was practically unbeatable once it hit late game. Long ago i used to hang out with these GM's in a chat room. They were all members of a clan (their name escapes me) and I admired their ability to play this game. Considering this was back in early 2011 GM on the SEA server was still somewhat legit with the likes of Mafia and moonglade laddering on it as well as many others. I was inspired and wanted to become just as good as them, if not better. I still remember the day the clan suddenly just died away. Each day players were slowly becoming inactive due to schooling/work and/or lack of interest in the game/server. It was a sad moment for i considered these guys as cool bunch of high skilled players considering i was only a bronze player who only used the mouse when i played.

Since that day i decided to improve my game and learn to play it faster and smarter. The first day i hit silver after my first whole year of being stuck in the bronze league was like a sign from the starcraft gods (lol :P) that i shouldn't give up that i can break through the ranks and move up in this gaming world.

Along the way i have meet many of people of all sorts to which some i consider long time friends and still remain in contact with. I joined a clan QED (remember us? possibly not) to help me from my bronze struggles which are a large proportion of the people i remain in contact with. My improvement from there was a blur. In a matter of 3 months i went from silver to diamond league, which from silver to gold took me a month and gold to plat just 10 days. Things were looking up and masters was in sight!

Times moves by and it seems by the year ive started to lose my love and passion for starcraft. These days i don't ladder every day at least once. I'd go weeks even months without playing starcraft where two years ago this would of seemed like a joke to me. Ive been playing other games like cs:go and occasionally LoL and hearthstone and ive even recently started playing OSU. Starcraft in 1v1 is such a demanding game and i guess its taken a toll on me. Its not like im scared to ladder 1v1 its rather i lack the motivation. Also now with Uni in progress and other real world issues to deal with i just lack the time and mental stability to play at a decent-ish level.

So i guess my question is have any of you ever had a moment or even currently in the same state of flux where you just cannot be bothered with this game anymore? What did you do to regain passion for this game? I almost threw away my senior year of highschool back in the day for this game ive dedicated too much to throw it away from myself. Would appreciate some POV on the subject i present to you all.

RE: The old clan was wT i just remembered winter nights. They were the cool bunch.

Re: It's been a while...

Sup stodd, been a while!
Well basically to answer your question to everyone in the last part of the blog, I have experienced that several times playing this difficult game of Starcraft 2. But time and time again, I find myself clicking that Play button (even though I can play games like CSGO / Dota.) I guess the things that keep me going are that I have a fantastic group of fucks in the sR skype chat and it keeps me laughing and interested in the game no matter how mean they get. Another would be tournaments. Holy ****. Watching starcraft tournaments live are like nothing compared to watching tourneys of other games, especially games that are too close to call an are so tight. It gets to the point where I get all hyper and stuff coz of nerdchills and nerdgasms hahaha

But yeah guess that's it! Try find a new clan now that eMp dieded and try to get back involved at least in international starcraft 2 stuffs! Cya around mang ^^

Re: It's been a while...

Hi, Todd.
Personally I believe there is nothing wrong with the ups and downs regarding passion to games. It happens to everybody. I am not a good player by any means but I can safely say I am a passionate watcher. I play a bit here and there, just for fun, competitive play requires more time than I am willing to spend.

Please read my interview with x5.PiG. I question exactly what you are feeling, "what do I do now", "do I cross the line between enthusiast and pro". SC2 is a demanding game, it requires fast hands and an immensely sharp and calm brain. Compare 1x1 sports like chess or tennis to more popular ones and you will see the difference. Whose brain is better, the elite.

You can like any games you want, they are not mutually exclusive, but yes, SC2 will take its toll as you already know. Read the interview here, it may help you find the answer.

Re: It's been a while...

In my opinion: Real Life has Priority over any Games. If your gaming is affecting your Real Life, then hold back on Gaming. At the end of the Day, your Gaming Passion will slowly die off. Due to: Work Commitments, Family Commitments, and other responsibility you may have as well. Point is: Don't take the game too seriously.

But that doesn't mean you go cold Turkey on it, just play game in moderation!

You don't want to be doing this:

If you finding yourself hard to get back into Starcraft 2, than take it slowly step-by-step, or just take X amount of days/weeks/years off to do your own things or play other games.

At the end of the Day Game is for entertainment purposes, to pass the time. Enjoy yourself. If you not enjoying yourself with a particular thing, then maybe the thing is not for you. There are plenty of other things you can do that you enjoy. As Life goes, these things can change from time to time, so don't be too surprise

Most importantly: Have Fun!
