The theatre scene in Singapore is experiencing quite the attention these days. One of my favourite Singapore actors Adrian Pang, recently set up his very own theatre company 'Pangdemonium!' with his wife Tracie to inject a bit of fun and his own style into the theatre scene.
For those in Singapore interested in theatre - (lol at pple going crazy at $150 boring phantom of the opera tickets), Pangdemonium! are running their version of the Pulitzer Prize winning musical called 'Next To Normal' in Singapore in September. We recently went down to feature performances from there cast which gives you a glimpse of what you can expect to see at the musical.
And if you want to grab tickets head over to their website, you can even win a trip to club med bali!
Updated: Ok fine LennX!! Information from sistic.com.sg where you can buy the tickets.
SYNOPSIS
Winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, the musical Next To Normal tells the story of Diana Goodman (West End star Sally Ann Triplett, who has appeared in Chicago, Cats, Mama Mia!, among dozens of other shows), a suburban housewife battling through her daily life, fighting mental demons in the form of bipolar disorder, coupled with hallucinations that stem from a tragedy sixteen years earlier. Her husband Dan (Adrian Pang), tries in vain to keep her mind and his family stable, but their struggles become increasingly traumatic as Diana decides to defy her doctor’s orders. After several failed attempts to stem the tide by therapy, she resorts to desperate measures.
Throughout her struggles, Diana's relationship with her daughter Natalie (Julia Abueva, Spring Awakening) becomes strained because Natalie feels invisible in the eyes of her mother, who prefers the superhero-like image she has created for her son (Nathan Hartono, Spring Awakening), who is not all that he may seem… Things in this family are far from “normal”…
Next To Normal is the extraordinary musical that dares to deal with difficult themes in ways that are profoundly moving and surprisingly comic, resulting in one of the most original and powerful pieces of theatre in modern times, and Pangdemonium is very excited to be producing this amazing show.
“The best musical of the season by a mile! Next To Normal is mesmerizing – an emotional powerhouse with a fire in its soul and a wicked wit that burns just as fiercely.” Rolling Stone
“A perfect musical. Simply put, Next To Normal is truly one of the most powerful, surprising and invigorating musicals in recent memory.” am New York

For those who are new or know next to nothing to the bustling arts scene in Singapore. I highly recommend attending the Singapore Arts Festival in 2014. I went to the 2012 one, and I feel it does well to introduce people to the wide array of performances that Singapore has to offer and for us to enjoy
Heck, if you are not the kind that enjoy plays that have darker themes, or a lot of subtext. Catch some plays that are catered to children. I believe The SRT (Singapore Repertory Theatre) and Act 3 have their own children's theatre group.
