My Starcraft Career

My StarCraft Career

Watch out guys this is going to be a long one.

I’ve been thinking a long time about making a blog, so I thought today was a good day to type some thoughts out.
I first got introduced to StarCraft in 2011 when I went to my cousin’s house and he was playing this RTS game called StarCraft 2. He was playing the campaign, but straight away I was interested because I was obsessed at the time with a game called Command & Conquer Generals. I played it so much; I used to challenge my cousins and brother to play all the time. So I asked my cousin to play on his account offline, soon enough I thought I was really pro, with my 1 rax with a reactor producing 2 marines at a time till I got maxed and not getting anything else and went to attack the very easy AI and won. So I challenged my cousin and borrowed someone’s account, he was high bronze at the time and I was…well horrible so I played clicking away with no hotkeys and he came with 30 mutas and proceeded to kill me.
After that devastating loss I was more determined than ever to beat him, I never lost to him in command and conquer so I must be better at StarCraft I though. So I went away and looked up a few builds, practiced for 2 months I went through countless builds 2 port banshee and 1 base ghost drops, stuff like that. I soon started talking to friends at school about the game and turns out I was making friends through the game which was awesome, but then. I felt I was ready to play him again, he beat me again, after the game he showed me a build called the 3 rax and told me to do nothing but this build until gold. So I tried it out and was losing, but I trusted him and kept doing it and slowly I started winning games, I then got accepted into a really new clan called demise and it was great talking about the game I got addicted to, soon I was taking games off my cousin but we were still very equal in skill and this wasn’t good enough for me. I came to his house one day for some StarCraft and he was playing with some guy that was GM, I was still bronze at the time so I was keen to play him, his name was RivaL. I got smashed I tried doing all the builds my bronze mind could remember but he kept winning me with what looked like minimal effort. I remembered to add RivaL and asked him for advice later down the track. My cousin went for year 12 exams but I kept playing because I knew he would be back and I wanted to be the best. This is when I entered my first SEAL tournament and I was getting ready for it very badly, learning new builds. I started watching pros and saw megumixbear vs some zerg, she used this reactor hellion opening and killed so many drones. I had to use it in the tournament. I was up against a GM Zerg, he cheesed me both games and it got uploaded to YouTube….I got owned.

It was the holidays so I played hard-core 5 days in a row to show everyone I wasn’t horrible and got silver, when I told everyone I realized the people I knew at school that played StarCraft were way better than me, one was gold and the other was Darknoob who was diamond at the time(I think). I started to lose again because 3 rax was getting stopped by everything it seemed, so I learnt a new build called the 1/1/1, seemed pretty strong :P not op at all. When my cousin came back to gaming he tried playing StarCraft and kept asking me for games, at this point I was nearly gold and he was still bronze so I was winning every game against him. So he rage quited lol. I had no rival anymore, then I remembered RIvaL, I asked him for games and the lucky thing was he switched to terran recently, but he still owned me with what looked like zero effort. He taught me a build it was 1 rax fe into 3 rax, I used it in every match up in every game and every now and then using my 1/1/1. I then got into gold and entered my first bsg, I came second place and was very proud of the results.
I was losing interest in the game though, I had no one I wanted to beat. Darknoob told me I should play him, I kept losing horribly to the diamond guy. With that my motivation was back and I challenged him almost every day but kept losing. My clan demise broke up so I decided I wanted a better clan so I thought I needed to rank up, as I had ladder anxiety at the time. I got plat very quickly and I found the sc2sea homepages a true maze, but I found the clans. The only clan ive seen before were ToR and FaDe. Darknoob just joined ToR at the time so I decided to join FaDe and be rivals. I pmed EXCL and he told me I had to get officer approvals to get in, so I hung around and asked for games, but I seemed no one wanted to play with me, I was thinking it was maybe because im not respected enough so I decided to do another 5 days of pure ladder and got diamond. Rawfish saw my in the chat after 4 months and said something like “oh Redemption” “you aren’t in yet”. I was finally in FaDe. I found the environment was totally different to my last clan, they were playing games and a lot friendlier, I was loving it. I was learning so much.
I finally took my first game off Darknoob, at this point I was losing pretty much every day to him still, and I was happy at where I was with StarCraft, with the clan wars and the friends I’ve made. There was a tournament on called the high school league shortly after, the four of us that played made a team and competed. Then I got an application to join the team on sc2sea, from a guy called caution. We started to play a lot and I was losing heaps to him, we became StarCraft buddies. Rival soon joined the team and I was practicing with him a lot (almost everyday).
After the tournament I got masters and I thought I would never get to where I got, I was so happy. I made a lot of mates in fade, then fade disbanded but we still stuck together. With Darknoob and friends in fade heading for ToR and ToR being such a well-known clan, I signed up. Spartaz let me in with such pleasure I knew I was going to enjoy it, a week later I got gm…Today so many people influenced me to get better and get to where I was today, despite knowing sea’s reputation for having a horrible gm. Im still happy.
thanks for reading that is my StarCraft life up until now.
