Good day

I am an ordinary sc2 player that decided I would write about my experience playing this game. Read it if you want, dont if you dont. I suppose the purpose of this blog is to resolve that question that is in every newbies brain - why am I gold? Firstly introductions:-

I am Volition (Volition.893 also known as Josh) and this is my first RTS. I purchased the game in about December, and started playing as protoss for a while. Then after losing to terran constantly because I was an ordinary player, I decided Terran was where it is at. That switch, and some help from Voices, led me to plat as a macro terran. But i got this feeling in the back of my head - imagine if i could expand faster AND be able to build 12 drones at once. I wanted to be greedier. Also, TvT makes me want to rip my eyes out. So about 2 months ago, I tanked my rating to bronze on both NA and SEA, and moved through the ranks to where I am now.

In terms of zerg I am relatively new, having approximate 200-250 ladder wins accross both servers as zerg. But I am loving it, and really feel zerg is the way for me. As for style, I would describe myself as a macro player, usually using beefy units like roaches. Actually, that may be an understatement, against Protoss, my strat is early expand into roaches. Then more roaches. Then when I get sick of expanding, I build more roaches and start drops. I dont cheese or go for timing attacks, I like to be on a heap of bases and just power through my opponents - I try to get ahead, then get more ahead.

Now I do not propose to be another "road to master/gm/gsl/crackhouse" thread. My ambitions are no-where near as lofty. I would like to be diamond in the not to distant future - and more importantly, I want to continue to have fun. There are some impediments to me getting there, as I work as a solicitor and therefore work long hours (I may apply to clan TA just on the basis that they will need a cheap lawyer to advise on their sponsorship arrangements). This is an impediment, as some nights I dont have the energy to play ladder games at all. But I have things that others dont that may help me reach my goal:-

1. I work pretty hard and am a bit of a perfectionist (unfortunately the fact I am in gold means I am not doing that much perfectly);
2. I have altPiG coaching me.

I have only just moved to SEA on a consistent basis, mainly because of the community. sc2sea is in my timezone, and there seem to be great people here that are willing to get in and roll up their sleeves to run tournaments of no benefit to them. To be honest, I am wishing I made the move earlier, as this community seems very positive. And you guys seem to actually encourage lowbies to play and get better, including the introduction of the BSG leagues (as well as a BSG clan league that may be in the mix), and the fact that coaches will give up their time to give the winners some help. So far I have gone in three BSGs, semis in my first, then out first round in the last two. oops.

But alas I have digressed. I actually just enjoy writing and figured this was a simple way to start off. If you have any suggestions as to why you think I am in Gold league (based on absolutely no information, should be interesting), feel free to leave your thoughts. Also feel free to add me on SEA.
