Leaving Korea! +Californication
 

I'm coming home!! ooh yeah! I'm so damn excited to get back to a land where fruit and vegetables are abundant as well as my awesome ladeh waits, she so awesome I think the worst thing about Korea is she can't magically teleport here and so we had to talk over skype to stay in touch, which sucks donkey phallus.

In other news, it's bloody hard to track down all your clothes when you leave a Korean team as everyone tends to wear each others clothes. Artosis assured me it was the same with eSTRO back in the day when he lived there, and apparently if you stay with the Tasteless you're clothes and belongings also suddenly become victim to the commune. So after much hunting and finally venturing into the manager's room I found my favourite trackies and T-shirt and was much relieved, also a few other quite nice T-shirts that I own lying around. I also did a 4th check of the laundry room and found my pyjama pants! w00t, so I'll only be leaving without a singlet and a shitty shirt which i might not have even brought with me in the first place, it's all good!

I've got my appliances charging and am desperately hoping that I have full personal movie entertainment on my flights home. Gotta watch the Iron men movies I never watched those before :P. Also I need to continue a tradition I have of watching EVERY romantic-comedy available to me! For some reason it's my favourite genre of "popcorn" movies ever since I watched "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton" when I was 15 I realised that there was something beautiful about movies that cater completely to a young girls idealised ideas of romance whilst mixing it with comedy. I guess somehow it's the one really mass-produced, accessible genre that maintains its innocence. After just finishing watching season 5 of californication, that might be something I sorely need.

Speaking of which, Hank moody. Let's talk about this ballers TV series. Ok I agree with the standard criticism of the most recent season that basically says there's horrible episode-to-episode flow and the story is disjointed, but nonetheless finally seeing the consequences for Hank's actions was fantastic. For those of you who are fans like me, you've watched this guy debauch his way through hundreds of scenarios with all manner of women and never exercised an ounce of self-control. He's "tittie-twisted" the fiance of the mother of his child, taken a shit on his car, fought the director of the movie adaptation of his book (after boning his wife), hooked up with dozens of girls less than half his age, including a 15 year old... the list goes on...

And at the end of all this his consequences were relatively small, the chance of re-union with his family was always just out of reach and his constant promiscuity never seemed to impact his chances. Now finally he's stopped most of his activities, moved away from the city that brings out the worst in him (L.A.) and started to make some, SOME, adult, and responsible decisions. Nonetheless the shit just keeps on falling on Hank who literally spends the majority of this season having pieces of shit land on his head... and you can't help but feel if he ******* man'd up and was faithful and honest with his family in the first place he'd never have to endure all this.

The most poignant scene came in the last episode when Karen, the woman he's pined after for years and years and his EX, wants to sleep with him but he just won't do it. He actually identifies the fact that she is both drunk and upset over her current husbands alcoholism, and refuses to get intimate with her. Finally, oh finally their relationship, the core of the entire series is turned on it's head and it's clear that Hank has GROWN. The man-child incapable of restraint that goes around boning every woman in sight has finally learnt restraint! He denies his basic urges in favour of the well-being of the women he loves, his ex and daughter. And it's a beautiful moment where you think, "hey, this eloquent mofo who we love for all his whoring and funny stuff he says is growing up and can still be happy with his family even after all the crap he's done" and we smile to ourselves. However within 2 minutes the illusion is shattered as he realises his daughters boyfriend is cheating on her in the bathroom with some super hot black singer girl. The little shit says some of the gayest most irresponsible shit ever and you literally want to see the ****** get shot in the face when he's basically like "whatever lifes short I love your daughter but I do what I want".

But at the same time you can't help but see the similarity to Hank who even whilst pursuing his family and trying to re-unite with them for so many years kept boning everything in sight. And you have this mixed feeling of "**** YOU LITTLE SHIT" and "Oh this is sad this is exactly what hank was like... ******".

And so you kind-of realise that Hank is a piece of shit, over the last season he's been shown more and more in the light of others opinions but this moment, more than ever, shows you a perfect image of his past mistakes in this young man that is dating his daughter. A reflection of himself breaking his way into her heart and then ******* with her the same way he did with his EX. It's a sad and beautiful moment where you realise a character you loved for his awesome sexual achievements and hilarious dialogue is actually a turd,.

"I'm just a young version of you, but better" says the boyfriend as Hank catches him cheating and confronts him.

Oh god is it satisfying when Hank starts turning his face into a bursting red fountain, but only to realise that it's just one last lack of self-restraint that will push him further from his family than he's ever been before. As the boyfriend falls to the ground spraying blood, the family run over to hold him and throw dark looks at Hank. They don't know the kids transgressions, and if Hank tells the kid will likely get killed by the angry rapper-boyfriend of the singer he was cheating with. All he can do is walk away and be left behind, abandoned by his family.

They didn't know the whole story, and he couldn't explain it to them. But unlike many situations in TV series we aren't left with a feeling of "gah if only it went down a different way". Instead we can't help but feel that if Hank just was never such a promiscuous ****** in the first place, this whole situation would have been avoided. He would have been trusted over this ******, and maybe he never would have had the chance to work his way so close to their family under the watchful eyes of a faithful Hank. But as it is he's sacrificed any right he has to be protector or overseer of his family and as such is just a lonely old man left on his own. His family is but a thing of the past that he will never lay claim to again. He pissed that chance away and now has to pay the toll for it.

Finally, in its end, Californication actually punished it's protagonist for all of his actions. It makes me happy that they added this moral ending to the story and didn't just celebrate his actions, as fun as that was. I'm glad some TV shows still have great writing. It makes up for season 2 of The Walking Dead. God that was awful. Thankfully season 3 is awesome!

Man that ending to season 5 of californication, I was almost screaming at my TV haha. Hope they're not just using it to artificially stretch the show out though, since we all know when the show finally ends it's either gonna be Hank with his happily ever after with the family, or Hank choking on his own vomit next to a hooker :P

yo californication is awesome, if you're digging this kind of narrative read some charles bukowski, hank moody is loosely based off the alter ego he writes as, same nickname, womanizing etc etc
