HotS Beta Game File Trivia
 

Part of what I've been doing over the past few days is helping Liquipedia get together all of the information from the HotS Beta that it needs to update the new unit pages, because I don't actually have access to the beta this is mostly just me going through the game files with a text editor. Because no one really expects that you'll view them this way you sometimes catch glimpses of commented out behavior or internal names that are funny or informative.

So without further ado here's my list of mildly interesting HotS beta game file trivia:

The Viper's abduct ability is internally referred to as 'Yoink' and it's icon named the "FaceEmbrace"
Staying on the topic of the viper, blinding cloud's internal name is actually "BurrowProtector" presumably because it was a common tactic in Broodwar to use DarkSwarm to protect your lurkers while they were burrowing.
Following in the tradition of the Tasteless and Artosis bot from Wings of Liberty, the HotS files actually include 2 critters called the "Artosilope" and the "Anteplott" which are presumably antelopes.
The two nydus worms that were discovered prior to the beta officially launching are actually commented out in the game files, not removed, to me this implies they might be for multiplayer after all just not being tested at the moment.
The Battle Hellion is internally referred to in the files as the "HellionTank".
The weapon used by the tempest fires an effect called the "CarrierScarabLaunchMissile" a reference to two sorely missed protoss units.
Too soon Blizzard, too soon.

It was originally planned to give a speed boost ability to the battlecruiser but it was removed at some point before the beta, it's commented out in the game files and it's internal name was: MaximumThrust!
Another scrapped ability you probably knew about was the mothership core's ability to teleport between nexuses, but there is an even more interesting ability commented out called "NexusInvulnerability" which presumably does exactly that.
And that's all I've got for now, I'll update this blog if I find some more interesting ones.

The Anteplott is actually reference to three genius starcraft2 players, The Plott Brothers (Day9 Tastleless) and Antelope :3
