It's been rough
 

I've been stuck in a rut for a while. I'm writing this because I really need to get this off my chest.

It's been a terrible 9 months for me to be honest. I've been trying to search for a job. But I don't think I have been trying hard enough, maybe it's the on-set of depression, maybe it isn't, but I've definitely been feeling a lot of pressure lately.

I think it's a good thing that I'm recognizing the problem in my life.

That is the lack of motivation.

This is really killing me, I need to find that spark, that simple push over the edge that would get me going once again. They say some people wait for things to happen, and others make things happen.

Time and tide waits for no man.

I need to belong to the latter once again.

In short, I really need to "wake up my idea" (it's a popular Singlish term that means "get a clue").

Yeah I'm having a little trouble finding motivation lately...

On a lighter note this coincides with you getting together with Nirv, pretty obvious Nirv is a bad influence .

This was happening to me, to top it off, my girl-friend at the time broke up with me, I was struggling with both Starcraft and personal life. I was without any direction.

Then I realised that, that meant I am free, and the world is my oyster, and I could do whatever I wanted to do.

I stopped being sad, and decided to be awesome instead.

A change in mentality is all it took.

Motivation. Somewhere along the lines of I'm a healthy 20 year oldish intelligent handsome guy.

I lost 10kg, found a job paying me 50k+/Year, found the girl of my dreams and continue to play a game that I love casually at a high level, surrounded by friends who were always there to cheer me up and motivate me when I needed it. You are not alone.

I don't mean to brag, just mean to share a success story. Positive stories, positive vibes, positive thinking, this is what you need to surround yourself with. If you start to dislike yourself and doubt yourself, you've already lost half the battle.

I was there, and I kicked myself in the ass. Take your time, there is no pressure, but do get off your ass and be as active as you can be and as productive as you can be. I know this can be hard, this is why you need to start looking at the rewards -> money, ribbed body, women, best protoss ever, etc etc.

Men have a much larger time clock to achieve "success" than Women, you have plenty of time to work at whatever it is you desire. The world is your oyster, my friend.

ray's story is so inspirational! Cyanide I hope you follow suit too, would love you to see you do well, you're such a awesome guy (no homo. maybe a bit) and I look forward to a blog soon when you've started that path to success! I still remember your Razer blog was fantastic stuff !~

For gamers, we often hold the most atrocious sleep cycles ever. This can be an important element in getting you energised to achieve. Try to maintain a good sleep pattern, don't stay up past 1am.. Try and be off your computer at least an hour before you intend on sleeping. Then, coupled with a good exercise schedule - you'll feel alot more energised. I've been through it, mostly while at Uni. And I think a semester of my grades suffered because of it. Now, I'm much more energised and able to achieve the tasks I set for myself.

Now I don't follow the best sleeping schedule - but I do my best to make up for the late nights. With running a team, I often do that work after hours, along with working for myself - I often have a busy schedule. However, I do my best to get exercise and sleep as much as I can..

My mum retired few years ago after spending decades working a job she didn't like
No she is doing what she loves - painting full time and even selling her works for exorbitant amounts of money ;P

You've identified the problem at least and shared your situation! This is a good first step! Ray's post pretty much sums up the attitude you need to work towards! I'm sure it will be hard at first to apply for more jobs, fix sleep cycles, reduce gaming time and start exercising/socialising more! But once you get into it I guarantee you'll feel like a boss!

If money is a problem don't be afraid to settle for a job you feel you're overqualified for. Money is money, and working is always a boon to self esteem!

Good luck finding and following your passion in life and climbing out of this rut!

While i was waiting for Uni to start, i couldnt find any job thats not a slave camp. It got really bad once my savings start to run out and i became upset at alot of people/things. Out of desperation, i took on some part time/low pay jobs like running events, promoting/selling credit cards and even charity stuff(Get ppl to donate, u take a cut). After awhile it didnt seem so bad, at least i was getting paid, met alot of people and even learned some interesting things.

IMO get a job fist, dont worry about being overqualified for it and then slowly work your way up. Dont forget, working experience is very important here in Singapore :O

PS: Call Recruit Express or any other Job agency, those people are so desperate for commission you`ll get liek 2-3 offers from them a week at least.

Thanks guys. It definitely made me feel better opening up.

I have digested what I have read, as well as sat and talked with friends, and I'm really touched by your kind words.

It is my promise to everyone, and most importantly, myself, that within the next 2 months, I must make a job happen.

And it's time I started getting proper sleep cycles again, and soon enough, start running (I don't want to end up like Bryan ).

Also, let this be a reminder to all, at how amazing this community really is.
