My life as a gamer.

Since I'm generally not too well known on these forums, or by many people in the SEA region in general, I figured I'd use this blog as a way to tell my story, so hopefully people can get to know me a bit better.

I'm a 17 year old gamer living in Victoria, and ever since I was eight years old, I began gaming, inspired by my brother to play an old MMO-RPG called tibia. Here is where I began to realise the joys of the internet and online gaming. It grew on my friends also, we'd all go to each other's houses, and play this game non-stop all day, all night. We thought we were amazing, but we were just scrubs. This game, as terrible as it was, taught me many life lessons, the main one was: Never trust ANYONE over the internet. Being a trusting little child, I'd trust other players way too much with precious items, and whatnot, I'd lose them, and a lesson would be learnt that day. I played this game, and a few others casually until about 13 years old, where I moved into a new MMO, which was WoW.

Nearing the end of TBC, I levelled up, just in time for the release of Wrath of the Lich King. I had raided/pvped on a completely noob level until the beginning of Wrath (When I was the biggest noob at any game). I joined a raid by a mid level raiding guild, needing one person for their Nax 25 raid. I was the biggest noob when I started, I went through this raid, being absolutely terrible. I didn't know what to do, I said the noobiest things, and was laughed at constantly. Despite this, at the end of the raid, I was invited to join the guild. This is where my transition began from being an absolute scrub, to a decent gamer. I was constantly criticized about things by my guild members, which made me want to research, and fix all my issues. Slowly through research, and development, I grew to become the best DPS in that guild, until it disbanded. From then, I went to join a world class raiding guild for the rest of Wrath of the Lich king, and the beginning of Cataclysm, but I quit after the start of Cataclysm.

About a week before Starcraft 2 came out, I saw the title, and figured I'd buy it, since I'd loved every single Blizzard game, and grew up playing all their titles. I bought the game the day it came out, and began playing. Starting at Bronze, I was freaking terrible. I did the normal bronze thing, and raged at banshees, DTs, and generally anything freaking invisible! But eventually I got over this, and worked out ways to improve. I watched VODs, and used the day9 daily to improve my skills, this game was growing on me. At the end of season 1, I was diamond. I worked my ass off to get there, and I was extremely happy with myself. I thought I was top shit, but I still had work to do. I remember the one night I was at a friend's house, laddering like crazy, and I came up against my first masters player. Obviously I didn't know at the time, but at the end of the game, when I won, I was absolutely so excited that I was getting somewhere. I then went on to get a promotion to masters a few weeks later.

The jump from masters to GM was the hardest part. I remember it being during the holidays, I was laddering all day, for 10 hours a day, 40-50 games a day, I was getting closer and closer to GM, and when I got it, it was the greatest feeling in the world. I'm now a pretty decently ranked GM on SEA, and all I can put it to is straight dedication. Prolonged periods of laddering is what keeps me playing solid, and makes me improve efficiently.

This game has given me a new perspective on life: If you try hard enough, you can achieve anything. Currently, pretty much all my spare time is being put to laddering on this game, as a 17 year old with high school, almost being over, I'll have much more spare time, and I want to make a thing out of this, and try to play this game professionally.

I think an obligatory "Cool Story Bro" is in order
Malice.
