Moving to US
 

Just a little blog, felt like typing things out

So I'm moving to US with my family in about 3 weeks, to Houston, Texas.

I'm worried about how I'm going to spend my time over there.

I don't know anyone there, and it's not like I'm going to be living in a residential college so I can't meet new people (I might be able to get into a college next year though)

I found that meeting new people at university isn't as that easy as it was in say highschool because most of them seem to be already in a social group of their own.

When I moved away from home to Melbourne last year, I lived in a residential college and holy shit, that was a good experience. Everyone who lived there felt like a family to me, except with 200 members. Though this was the case, I don't recall meeting new people besides the dorm environment.

This year, I lived at home with my parents in Perth. Again, I didn't really meet new people at the university here. I already had highschool friends here so I felt there was no need to meet knew people. Also, I found that living at home is pretty boring compared to living in a dorm where you get smashed on a weekly basis and be faced with no consequences, haha.

Now I'm going to a completely new place. I'm already thinking in mind "Meh, I'll just do some studies and play SCII during my spare time"

But that sounds so ******* sad. I'm gonna have to meet new people and etc, but where I'm going to be living is far from city and I have no ways of meeting new people :| It may sound cool to some people since I'll have ALOT of time to do anything but I'm really not sure on what to do over there.

The idea of devoting time to SCII doesn't sounds THAT horrible though. That's what I always wanted to do when I was studying, but now that I'll actually have time, I'm doubting it.

Hopefully, I'll be able to move out of home next year to go to some college somewhere in US but until then, what to do?

I'm just fantasizing things in my head, but if iM was to pick me up (I mentioned this moving to US business and they showed interest in it) maybe playing SCII isn't that much of a bad idea. I'll have a reason to play for. I don't know, I'm just merely fantasizing, haha.

Oh, and I made a short clip for my filming class. It's 5min long and if anyone is bored, have a look and maybe chuck me some criticism. I'm gonna start studying Film hardcore in US when I get things start rolling.

Lol, have you talked to anyone from melb about this stuff? Or saving your worries for deep heart-to-hearts when you come over? Btw I'm going to US for a month after you come here LOL come to Colorado sometime

Dude if meeting new people is an issue you need to just get out. Join a sporting team, join groups within your community, go to gigs or just smoke cones all day by yourself. I really see those as your only options.

oooo Houston is where I am most familiar with around the U.S!!! I go there a lot cause of family.

TLR haha, if you're a college student around the U.S, it's a great environment. There is the CSL (Collegiate Starleague) that anybody can participate in as long as the college applied to play in it - there are over hundreds of college participating in this, and it's really cool. Texas A&T and University of Houston is all in the CSL if I remember correctly, so that'll be really sick man.

Around Houston, depending on which neighborhood u live in, it'll be a bit quiet here and there. It takes a long time to get around in the city, so to make friends you'll have to attend hobby classes, sport teams, or whatever.
