I teamliquid and I think for the most part their moderators do an excellent job. People who are banned are always gonna bitch - the interesting thing however, is no matter how much those guys hate TL mods or their rules or whatever they still end up going back using the site and remaking new accounts. I find it ironic they can't stop themselves using a site they have so much hatred for.

It is funny indeed. It's more a satirical cartoon (caricature works in this meaning in English ?) than ironic. It's an exaggeration to express in a funny way the opinion that Team Liquid Forum (and sc2sea) rules are too harsh.

Where it is a bit biased is that moderation here and there don't punish different opinions but behaviors that are not accepted. There is a thread about those rules and everyone have the opportunity to express his own opinion about how rules are.

The caricature comes from the fact that TLF has so many posters that they increase in proportion their harshness to maintain readability of posts and try to skim so to have only the more interesting things. When you have a thread with 600 pages, frankly who read them ?

would have thought that the two things are completely different imo; the community =! its admins and moderators.

There's a relationship between the two though. How a site is moderated has a massive impact on the culture of the site. People express opinions differently depending on the rules in place in the community. Some are drawn to the community because of these rules, whilst others are pushed away. Ultimately the "harsh" moderation of TL is a big reason SCreddit gets so much traffic.

It's not a direct and dependant relationship but it definitely has a strong impact.

exactly what PiG said. of course a "community" is necessity for any site to even function and in TL's case there is no doubt Nazgul's involvement along with his strict no-nonsense moderation policy has had a tremendous influence on the site's growth, membership and culture on the site. His vision for TL and the decisions he has made are the differentiating factors why TL is a success, unlike the other hundreds of sc2 team/community sites in existence that we don't care about or know - even tho people may not always agree with them and/or his moderation policy it is one I feel that produces a "better" community & environment.

i think the reddit comments are hilarious - i wish there was a way to display comments only above certain points, it would make navigation so much easier. screddit to me is much more of a news site than a forum/discussion one which I only go to when I'm bored after reading stuff on TL.

I agree. They do not punish or ban people because they have different opinions. They punish people because they have broken the rules that they (The TeamLiquid Staff and the members) themselves have "agreed on".

Whether am I just seeing one side of the TeamLiquid Forums community or whether that's all there is to it is still a mystery to me.
