My Keyboard/Mouse Setup (Soon to be!)
 

Hi guys!

This is an update on my situation with keyboard/mouse/mousepad, which I made a thread about ages ago while trying to make a decision on what I'd buy. I just ordered my gear last night with the intentions of getting the best gaming gear I while ignoring the price. I know Im going to make great use out of the gear, but I also selected the gear based off of:

- What will last for a long time
- What functions brilliantly
- What doesn't look like a dogs turd
- What is as close as possible while still doing all the above, to the size/shape of my current keyboard/mouse.
- What feels good

Of course, this is mostly based off the opinions of other people, but I looked at a crapton of reviews before I knew I could be sure.

So I decided on the Steelseries 7G keyboard, Steelseries XAI mouse and Steelseries 9HD mousepad.

Steelseries 7G


I chose the 7G mostly because it functions like a beast, or so I hear. Apparently the mechanical switches aren't as loud as others that are on the market, but its to be expected that it'd be louder than a normal keyboard regardless. I dont know the feel of the keyboard, but I dont have anywhere to test the feel, so Im just jumping into the deep end and buying what I've heard is an exceptional keyboard. Hopefully my gamble pays off like it did for my webcam and headset ;P

One of the biggest considerations was where the alt key is positioned, as thats my scroll through hatcheries button. On my brother's wireless keyboard, the alt key is too far to the left and that makes the game almost unplayable, seeing as I have to completely swivel my hand around 90 degrees to do injects every 40 seconds.

I could have chosen a lesser mouse, due to playing an RTS game 99% of the time, but why bother if you can go for the higher range mice, which allow for better control? The mousepad and mouse were designed in consideration of each other, and I've watched a video of both being used in combination for CS:S on youtube, which can be seen here:

I agree with the opinion of that guy. It looks pretty darn good, if not close to perfect in control. Or at least, as close to perfect as any RTS player could ever really want. The shape/size of the mouse is great as well, I have used ambidextrous mice heaps, and am familiar with the size/shape as a result. So if I were to change to a right handed mouse, like the razer deathadder, although I could find it possible more comfortable, it'd take longer for me to adjust and I could end up with a different method of using the mouse, without even noticing it.

Oh and yes, that is a screen under the mouse.

Shame that Im buying all of this stuff after the adelaide LAN I went to, dunno if I can go to future ones to show this stuff off due to work! I guess its better to get used to the mouse/keyboard first.

Why does everyone seem to be using mousepads. :{ :{ Am i the only SC2 player that doesnt even own one..

I have a mouse pad from ikea that's supposedly a Lamp pad. ((

Because mousepads give so much more control. looks like a beassstly setup. Really want to try the xai and 7g out.

I'll probably take photos of it all when I have the keyboard/mouse/mousepad. I have a custom computer (can run highest SC2 settings), a LED widescreen, a platronics headset that fits on my head perfectly and a 720p quality webcam.

The only thing I would could affordably improve would be the headset or speakers, but I havent found the desire to just yet.

I might get that mouse if my 6 year old one dies seeing it is a decent claw grip mouse from what ive read. Or i might just get another one of the current im using, so gooooood. Best mouse for $15 fo sho. Microsoft optical basic mouse v2

I have a razor copperhead it's an awesome claw mouse along with G15 keyboard which is good but I wouldn't mind getting a mechanical. with the numpad removed.

I use a razer deathadder with a ss (steelseries) sc2 edition mousepad and my grip is like 80% plam with a bit of clawing and fingertip grip
