My hastily written BETA Review on "The Mummy Online"
 

Good morning/day/evening/night ladies, gentlemen and nerds. In this here blog I shall write about my review on a new game, made by a company that I can’t recall ever hearing about before. But whatever, beta testing = free gameplay, and a chance for me to win meh some D3. But I digress; I shall begin the review/ experiences and recommendations. Keep in mind I am allowed to say all these things as I have painstakingly read the BETA testing agreement and some of this information is on the website. TT

The game is called ‘The Mummy’. It is a browser based 3d multiplayer game that revolves around 1930’s-1950’s Egypt (I can’t tell exactly what the era is), a time of treasure hunting, rumored magic and Gods doing some nasty stuff to you (anyone seen the Mummy and the Mummy Returns?).

The game has 2 playable classes.

The first class is the Cultists. The Cultists is a group of Egyptian fanatics who believe in Ancient Egyptian Gods. These people have traded their mortal souls for wealth and power in this world. They fight to protect Ancient Egypt and to bring back ‘Masika’ from the dead, who will help them accomplish their final goal of total world domination (sounds like Hitler).

The second playable class is the Raiders. The Raiders are thieves who devote their lives to finding unclaimed treasure left behind thousands of years ago. They raid dungeons (WoW?), steal treasure and plunder teh good stuff. With hopes and dreams of endless wealth, nothing can stop the Raiders from trying to make their dreams a reality.

Now, time to move on to the classes. Each playable race has 3 playable classes. The Cultists have: the Assassin, the Enforcer and the Priest. The Raiders have: the Gunslinger, the Brawler and the Scholar. Each race has 1 class which is Ranged, 1 which is Melee and 1 which is Magic. The Gunslinger and the Enforcer is Ranged. The Priest and the Scholar is magic and the Brawler and the Assassin is Melee. Simple.

Now, I have only had the fortune of playing this game since yesterday as I only got the invitation 2 days ago, so unfortunately I haven’t had more than about 2 hours of actual gameplay, but I will edit this one or make another one when I can make a full proper review.

So far I haven’t even said anything about what you do in the game; I’m pretty bad at blog-writing. Anyway, you’re a character that can level up, gain abilities, raid dungeons and fight a variety of different monsters. Raiding dungeons is cool and I find that it is pretty similar to ‘Diablo’ in the way of a central hub and then you being able to travel out to all these different areas. Raiding dungeons requires you to complete puzzles while fighting baddies with a boss at the end.

Outside of dungeons you should follow a quest line, like most MMO’s have. Now, apparently there is a story that you play as a character, but so far I haven’t seen any mentions of the character (Edward Morgan) or this storyline. Here it is if you want a read.

“Follow adventurer Edward Morgan through 1930’s Egypt in a battle against ancient evil in the fast-paced action-adventure RPG The Mummy Online, inspired by the blockbuster film franchise.

Professor Edward Morgan is a desperate man. His wife has been struck down by a mysterious plague after discovering an ancient stone – the Stone of Rancor, inscribed in a language she has never seen before.

Morgan’s hunt for clues leads him across Egypt to the tombs of Amarna and the mummified remains of a powerful Ancient Egyptian priestess. Little does he know of the horrors that await when the spirit of the priestess is unleashed...”

I haven't taken any screen shots as i've only had about 4 hours to write this and i have skewl tommorow and i'm a lazy ass so i will upload a plethora of screen shots and a proper review in the next few days/ week!


My recommendations so far
The game doesn’t look very flash. But it is free and it does offer some unique experiences and is a pretty unique game from what I’ve seen. If you’re bored and don’t know what to do, give this game a go, you may like it.

Age of Mythology = best game set (partially) in Egypt. Those little jackel things that jumped around (Anubites? Something like that) were bawwwws.
