Does anyone need a coach?

So recently I've been thinking about sc2 and the best way i can achieve what i want out of this game.

Player wise i don't have the time or dedication needed to play ladder all day every day, im more a few hours every few days as much as i love this expansion. So my thinking is I would like to do coaching for a team a proper go. I know coaches generally aren't a thing outside korea in sc2 but i think if people would be willing to give it a try i could add some value to a team/academy.

The thing you need with coaching is players respect and trust.

While most higher level players are very skeptical to taking advice from lower level players because they generally don't understand the game as well and offer feedback on only the obvious, i believe i have enough insight into the game as well as general tactics and how to create builds specific to countering players/maps. I write documents as i play so i know the strategies I can use both for and against as well as timings for certain aspects.

Without giving away too much now, I would like to offer my services to people who would like it to gain some community respect in my coaching ability.

I would also like to point out my background is in air traffic control and business analysis, which are both about seeing/finding problems in the system and finding a way to make them better/smoother. I believe these real world skills will also help me with a teams system.

Will be seeing what comes in the next week and hopefully training some people from then

LOL i don't need to join the team to train them if they would like that. The main thing is to have the trust from the players to be able to try new things and systems if required to help further them

Re: Does anyone need a coach?

do you have any prior experience? If you want to coach for a team you'll probably be required to have some past experience and to have good game knowledge.

If you don't have any current experience and you're still interested you should ask around some of the smaller teams/clans in America.

Re: Does anyone need a coach?

Stallion was previously on a high level Australaian team and has plenty of experience within the SEA competitive scene. I'd be happy to discuss this further with you but will speak with my team first.

That said, to anyone interested i would happy to personally vouch for Stallion and his game knowledge.

Maybe placement in a tournament or competition a little more recent. I think that's what Fullmetal is looking for.

I'll be honest from playing you first hand I think you have quite awful game knowledge, ffe in lotv?? double forge off 1 gateway? and don't say you didn't have time or you were nervous. Do you have a nervous twitch where you build a forge or something?
Seriously I am going to just be straight up about this. You're not good enough to coach anyone and no one will benefit from getting coaching from you.

Your opinion is always allowed. I never said i was an amazing player, because i don't believe i am. As i have previously said, i don't believe you need to be a high level player to coach people, the same thing happens in quite a few different sports around the world.

I'm purely offering anyone that wants to have a second set of eyes, opinions and ways to look at the game, because i enjoy this game and want to have fun with it.

Thank you for your feedback

Cool man I'm just making sure the people that are actually serious about the game don't waste their time

if the person wants me to look at their play and give them my feedback and ideas i will, skill level doesn't matter, some people are more open to trying different things and feedback than others. I'm merely putting myself out there willing to try new things. I would think that is better for someone who is "serious about the game" but each to their own

Your analogy doesn't quite hold because the coaches in question, although not great players physically (in sports the physical demand is often quite high) are absolute experts with regard to the specifics that they coach (which is often founded in knowledge based coaching, hence why you don't need to be a good player).

In Starcraft, the analogy doesn't quite hold because skill is inextricably linked with knowledge. Much like in chess, to be a good coach you absolutely need to be a good player. So I think the criticism of your play does present a problem because it is a reflection of your capacity as an effective coach.

Re: Does anyone need a coach?

I disagree, in sc2 you can tell if an attack is going to work before the attack without being a pro but each to their own, I'm not really here to debate what can or can't be done based on X and Y.

You're both missing and making my point. Starcraft is a conceptual game, knowledge = power and roughly translates into skill. It doesn't have a physical aspect that reigns you in.

e.g. Professional basketball players have perfect knowledge of how to shoot the ball, but the nature of their bodies prevents them from perfectly being able to do this, that is why you can have good coaches who understand the theory well without having the physical ability.

In sc2, it's virtually all knowledge, a good coach is also a good player. For example, a gold player cannot coach above a gold level. Skill is very intimately tied up with knowledge in this game.

Hope that made sense.

i really don't have time for your adolescent crap wally, kindly go be salty in your clan/team chat or somewhere where someone actually cares. I'm tired of your salty posts for no reason what so ever. I'll be back after dancing, so if you want to continue embarrassing yourself because you take this game o so seriously please feel free. You aren't getting a rise out of me at all . DoMo i'd welcome a conversation on skype later if you are keen, i have to go but feels like you have an interesting perspective on the coach role.

Re: Does anyone need a coach?

aaaaand an insult was what I was waiting for. Further confirmation that instead of having an actual argument you have taken a position with no backing and were never going to change your mind no matter what anyone said. I am not trying to convince you to switch sides, I could not give a single **** what you thought about this. This was for everyone else reading.

As much as I often neglect to read half the posts on this website nowadays, ^ comment was probably not needed Hayden.

mGGNemesis Wed, 17th-Feb-2016 3:31 PM

Re: Does anyone need a coach?

I agree with Spartaz. I feel the way some of the comments made/phrased were more hostile than it needed to be or baiting for a certain response which kinda also derails the thread as well or is very discouraging.

There are good points made as well which Stally should consider even if he disagrees at this moment. All of us seek to improve and to contribute to the community and to the game. Stally is merely expressing his desire to do that.

More positivity and ideas, less negativity can help make the place and community and the game a better place
