ACL Melbourne: A Dragons Tale

ACL Melbourne 2015
A Dragons Tale
By Jamie "Ice" Beresford

Hey guys just wanna share a little tale from this weekends endeavours
First off this adventure started on Friday and me picking both Osiris and Rize up before we made the long drive to Melbourne. Now usually a drive to Melbourne from Adelaide will take 8-9 hours this drive however took closer to 11.. Coming from Adelaide i have no sense in the word traffic. The traffic we faced as we came into Melbourne made me rage more than Widow mines it was horrendous. However we made it safe and soundly to our hotel where we met Mikey and some of the Fray boys. I was buggered so i hit the bed pre early after a beer and some Fish and chips (Idea Prep right?)

Saturday - Up early once again and after a short 10 minute drive we had arrived at LaTrobe Uni however once in the uni finding where the Hall was and where to park was an adventure in itself, Likened to going around the spirals of Terraform.. Eventually we found it and made our way in and started setting up and warming up. i got about 30 mins of solid warm up in. Then we were all told to gather as the plan of the day was being well explained by Baldie .

I then realised that being the #1 seed for open brackets is a hinderence more than a help with not being able to stay on a computer i was forced to sit back and wait for Deth and Osiris to Finish before i was literally sentenced to Death by Widow Mine Drops

+ [G1 vs Deth] +

Game 1 was on Terraform and i knew going into the game that if i was to somehow win i wouldve needed to pull something out of the hat. So i was aiming to go for my standard on the map which is dt drops however i cancelled my zealot to early and much to my dismay i found an E-Bay blocking my natural -__-.. So went into 3 gates and a sg and a late expo with the intentions of Phoenix/Collosus. Then the first of many small pushes started to come my way. First off was a hit squad of 6- 8 marines a mine and a medivac and i some how managed to bait the mine on to his rines probes good bait.. after that he started throwing more drops at me. One after the other all Widow mines i thought i was holding well deflected 3 or 4 and then the game ending moment happened.. Accidently had Phoenix and mothership core on the same hotkey as 2 pesky widow mines landed in my main i frantically was hitting 'G' to pick them up however i didnt have the phoenix selected but i had the moco -___- and that was that

Game 2 was on Coda i was aiming to do a proxy 2 gate on his CC however he was all over it and i had to cancel my pylon. From there the game started to spiral out of control and went mouch like the first game where i was holding drops but let 2 in and in the end they flat out killed me

After the Deth series even though i had lost i still felt that i was playing pretty well and I was surprised when I was told I would be on stage again. However this time it was a zerg a match up im a little bit more comfortable. I then found out it was DJVillian who was one player I didnt want to play as i see him as a very dangerous player and pretty much the zerg equivalent of myself. Before our pre match interview we both promised each other to put on a show and that I feel he did.

+ [G1 vs Villian] +

Game 1 i wanted to start with a bang i opened the series with the "Ice Gate" and Villian opened with a 1 base burrowed roach push. This push put a spanner in the works and bought him the time he needed to be able to make the defence and tech he needed to counter and consequently win the game

+ [G2 vs Villian] +

Game 2 with my tournament on the line i wanted to play a lil bit more standard and level the series however after i pylon blocked DJ he had other plans. In the midst of the FOW in my main a sneaky drone started a proxy Hatch. I seen the creep before i seen the hatch and that was that i tried to hold my natural however in the end i couldnt and DJ took the series 2-0

After i was knocked out I spent most of the day watching games. I did however get to speak to Blysk, Probe and the Divine one for extended periods of time and was able to gain amazing knowledge from my protoss brethren.

Sunday the final day. For most of sunday i spent my time watching and cheering for Blysk. Blysk gave me alot of time and tips on saturday so i thought id throw my support behind him as he began his assault for his first ACL title. It was quite an interesting start to the Champs bracket, and it was full of highs and lows for many. Blysk lost 2-1 to Law and was sent to the lower bracket where he would meet the Divine one, after losing game 2 blysk overcame Pezz 2-1 and moved on to play Alopex. Blysk wasnt really troubled by an out of practice Alopex and moved on to play Law for the third time in the weekend. It was in this series where the highlight of my weekend was. In game 2 Law opened with a bane bust and done close to game ending damage, Blysk manages to just hold on and Protosses his way to an impressive win and taking the momentum into game 3.

All in all ACL was an amazing time and one i will remember fondly seeing as we had a PvP final massive Hype aha. Massive Congratulations to Probe who went on to beat blysk in the final 3-1
