This scene will never grow
 

I'm sure I will cop a lot of flack from the SC2SEA circle jerk brigade for this, but I just want to give some insight as to what this website has become from an outsider's point of view, and why it is highly unlikely that any new talent will join the SEA Starcraft 2 Scene (apart from the fact the game is dying).

I very rarely visit this site; but when I do, I'm greeted by 1 of 2 situations:
1) No new content has been posted
2) Several blogs have been posted, all of which serve no purpose but to create senseless drama.

From the point of view of a player interested in joining the community, both of these situations are enormous turnoffs. No new content gives the impression of a dead community, one which is not going to provide me any motivation to continue playing the game, nor to actively involve myself in the scene. Similarly, visiting the website and seeing a number of abusive blogs, mostly written with the linguistic skills of an autistic hamster and so obviously skewed to present only one side of a story makes me think that this is a community filled with unpleasant people where I can't put a single foot wrong or I will be eaten alive.

Guess what? situation number 2 is exactly what this site and community have become.

The number of prolific players in this community has been steadily decreasing since the release of Heart of the Swarm (perhaps even earlier). With more people leaving the community than entering it, what has developed is an almost 'ruling elite' group of people within the community. Person X will post generic blog or clan war thread Y and persons Z, A, B and C will post boring, formulaic responses D, E and F - and then everyone will have a jolly giggle, celebrating how incredibly witty and clever they are.

This may seem like harmless fun, but it's actually making current community members less interested in the scene, and intimidating prospective recruits from taking that first leap into the scene.

If, on my first visit to SC2SEA.com, all I see are threads filled with in-jokes I don't understand, or unintelligible whinging, I am immediately going to feel distanced from the community and find it very difficult to involve myself.

Many of you will instantly jump to the conclusion that what I am suggesting is required to make the scene grow is a 100% serious, no drama, tournament focused community - but that's not the case. Drama develops a players' public persona and creates hype; hype creates community engagement; community engagement and inclusiveness makes for a scene which is easy to approach and encourages new players to join. There is, however, a difference between drama for the sake of drama; and drama to create healthy competition amongst rivals - something this community desperately needs to learn.

TLDR: This site doesn't have to become a mechanical, tournament-spewing community - it just needs its 'inner circle' of members to show some maturity.

There is, however, a difference between drama for the sake of drama; and drama to create healthy competition amongst rivals - something this community desperately needs to learn.

This needs to happen more without all the circle jerking and i wont name but there is alot of it in the sea scene

We will be clamping down more on blogs, you are right there has been to many troll/unconstructive/abusive type threads, mostly from a few individuals. They are normally deleted, but we'll try and act quicker.

As for news, i'd disagree. We have 2 regular guys dedicated to it, as well as others who chip in.

As for sc2 in SEA, we're going alright, tournaments are going well, our players are improving and there may be some big projects coming in the next 12 months.

i think the other half of the post is directed at the circle jerkers at the top who think they run it all if they were in charge they would have the red writing. The scene needs to determine the difference betweeen hate and just banter.

OSC Weekly Update is just a re-branding of something that has been done forever, it is not new, it is not fresh. That being said Eddie does a great job at maintaining it and he definitely deserves a lot more credit than he is given. It makes me SICK that people still donate to keep this shit website up/hosted when all Nirvana does is make bank from it and spam his ads on the Facebook page. I sincerely hope these donations etc don't go to his slimey pocket but I bet they do.

Behind the Usernames? Seriously? Who's who has been done 50+ times? This community is already so tiny that everyone knows everyone.

I made a big post about why this scene and site is dead and Plottel agreed when we discussed it irl. Many of my mates and I have had this talk and we all agree on the same thing... Nirvana's nazi moderating, terrible formatting, an incredible circle jerk and a game that is declining popularity are ultimately this community/sites downfall.

I donno man, i don't think you should be bashing people who step up to attempt to make content. I have been enjoying the who's who. I've been around the community since early WoL but I dont know too many people well outside of the 2 clans i've been in (FaDe and mGG), and its cool to know those little facts about people and have some reading content every now and then on the forums.

Plottel Thank you. Everyone gives me shit for wishing that this community could be as awesome as it use to. I get angry every time there is a crusade. Every time i or many others say anything, and its the same group of people who shoot you down. For what reason ? To Troll ? to get some laughs for them selves. To make them selves look bigger ?
It's not funny it's not drama. It is just plain Toxic. Gone are the days of Friendly rivalries. No longer can i Say AxS (now sR) mGG ( to some extent) or ETL are friendly Rivals, Cause now there is pure hatred by some party or parties in the clans players.

I may be rambling here but hey i don't know.

Can we please stop having people thinking they are elitists or better then everyone else. If you have a grudge for someone let go and move on. Stop the talking and start the walking.
