What should i do

Story time!

So, today at school i was randomly browsing my files on the computer during I.T (info + tech) class. I stumbled onto My Computer and thought of what would be in the data files. So, it happened to be unblocked and i was allowed in. I had almost everything i wanted at my disposal. I had exams, past and future, results, past and future and some other sensitive files. Just then with my friend i stumbled on some of my own exams that i will be sitting in 4 weeks time.

I'm not too sure what to do now. I found it during the end of class and now i know exactly where it all is but i'm in a moral/ethical dilemma. I could easily print all my exams next week and have the most epic cheat ever, but the honest side of me is pissed off. =O Halp! Suggestions?

Re: What should i do

a) No1 cares about your grades, unless you want to do masters some day. Even then, they will only look at bach GPA.
b) School exams are ez mode.
c) All correct answers are in your textbook anyway
d) You should report it to responsible person (principal I guess). They will probably throw together a new exam, which isn't hard. They will take same questions and rephrase/swap answers/change numbers.

I have a cheating story from high school of my own.

When I was in 9th grade (equivalent of sophomore in high school), we were all taking standardized exams. One of my classmates stole English language test answer sheets from teacher's lounge 2 hours before exam, and made photocopies for every1. I was fluent in English at the time already, so I didn't need it. But held on to it, and had it in my pocket.

When I was leaving the exam room, I accidentally dropped the answer sheet. It made its way two rows behind, right under my classmate's seat, who was also very good at English. I noticed it, and knew no teachers or commission members saw it, but couldn't do anything.

Next day it turned out that government commission member found the sheet and accused my classmate of cheating. I came up with the truth to my English teacher. She knew better than anyone who was A+ in English anyway, as she's been our teacher for all 9 years. She assembled the entire board from school, and defended our exam results in front of government commission. She never disclosed the fact the entire class had the answer sheets.

Turned out nobody used them anyway, despite the obvious opportunity.

Re: What should i do

I wouldn't print them if I were you, I know my school looks at all our printing, yours might to. If it were me, I'd probably look at them and remember them, but you will probably feel better if you told a teacher that you could see all those files.

just remember them, arent you in like year 9-yr 10? nothing matters for a while m8

Re: What should i do

No, you will not cheat !

Just report to your teacher that his files are unprotected, and he must protect them quickly. Tell him you heard a rumor or something and verified that it was open.

Exams are made to be sure you know the stuff wich is teached to you. There is no other point. Work to pass them, don't cheat.

You would map hack to get Diamond ? No. That's exactly the same.

Don't cheat, that's bad.

If you're already having a moral dilemma NOW, the guilt is gonna kill you if you go ahead with the deed. Don't do it

Re: What should i do

I pretty much second crAzerk's sentiment.

It's easy for me to say because I'm in Uni and learning for the sake of learning, but memorising exam solutions isn't going to help your overall learning. If you know your stuff, you'll ace the exam anyway.

I would honestly report it, because chances are if you were able to access it accidentally, other people can and may potentially cheat as well.

Deathfang as your legal guardian I'm surprised you didn't come to me first. Now son look into your heart and find the answer, I know you will do the right thing.

Re: What should i do

That completely skips the whole point of studying. You do and you'll be screwed in yr 11 & 12

Just remember or copy it onto something. High school is total bs anyway.

where did you find these files - my school might have them too o;

Re: What should i do

If you cheat this time... next time you get another chance to cheat you will probably do it then too as the more you do something wrong, the more normal it becomes and the less your conscience will bother you. High school is not BS and the good study habits you develop there will help you in later years. Tell a school staff member who is responsible for IT or a teacher so they can fix it. DO NOT CHEAT! FORGET THEM! Pull weeds before they get big and become a problem. Something like that.

Re: What should i do

After a lot (5 seconds) of deliberation myself and the other judges (just me) have come to the conclusion that cheating is a bad thing to do. I won't bother reporting it coz there's a CHANCE my nazi principal will crack it or something and me and my friend are the only ones that know so we'll just leave it at that. Though i might slip and look at the essay topic for English *cough*

Re: What should i do

To be honest I don't think school grades really matter expect for your final exams grades, I did really well throughout my final year, not so well in the final exams ( SC2) and that has affected my uni application. Then again it kinda depends what education system you're doing and what country the university you want to go is in.

Other than that everyone here seems to be playing the little angel so you should totally DO IT ^^

also after you're done tell the IT techies so that no one else can do it, also troll someone you don't like by telling them about it after the IT techies lock it.

yeah sarcasm doesn't translate well through text. In all seriousness don't and tell your teacher/ IT techies cause it's unfair to everyone who didn't look at the papers,

Re: What should i do

Just look them up..... -.- All the asians in your school are doing so. They most probably unblocked them in the first place. I speak from experience!!! Na... Just kidding. I am not that great with computers. I leave that dirty job to the other asians and enjoy the spoils. It's just practice. Your actual exam will be different with MAYBE 1 or 2 similar questions. If you want to succeed in uni, you'll have to rely on your seniors' work. LOL! I have yet to know a person who didn't use some sort of reference from their senior in uni. Welcome to this dirty world, Deaths.

Also, remember one thing. You're using them as references. If you plan to copy them blindly, you'll set yourself up for failure in the future. They're perfect practice questions. Anyway, you'll find that there aren't that many different questions that can be asked for your subjects. Study for your exams and expect different questions because I wouldn't be surprised if the teachers knew that these folders are available for some curious students. They might just have these files in the system to trick you guys.

LOL! I thought this video would fit this scenario perfectly.

If it were me i would have a look at the answers, year 10 does not matter, hey if they are to stupid to put them in a place where you can't get them...

If you feel guilty just don't do it and say nothing until a school reunion!

Re: What should i do

1)Copy it into a thumbdrive.
2)Study it at home.
3)You are only a "winner" ONLY if u score good grades.
4)For those post which encourage you not to "cheat",pretend they did not post.
5)There is no "cheater",only "winner".
6) ^_^ when you get the results.(hopefully, otherwise you did it wrong)

Re: What should i do

Does your school use any type of monitoring software? I only ask because I am an IT admin for three schools and I can watch the screen of any computer in the schools.... so be careful lol.

DeathsFang Mon, 19th-Sep-2011 4:51 PM

Re: What should i do

Well today i went back to school and looked through the data files. I could only access one exam because the stupid teacher left everything in all her classes there. @ Fadey it MIGHT monitor what gets printed but all i did was put it on a friends flash drive for him and a few others. Undetectable. Full of win.

The plus side is now i'm getting praised and have gained legendary status among my classmates ^^

Re: What should i do

That's bad, DeathFangs. "A few others" are going to end "A big lot of people" and you give them all the chance of giving you up. It could end quite unpleasantly for you. I hope it doesn't though.

Don't do such things you will stay out of trouble.
