What do you call these things again? Feelings or something?

I didn't really wanna sit here and think how best to start writing this thing. I'm not a writer, I'm a dude who sees something that is broken and hits it with a hammer until it's fixed. So on that note I am stepping down from the majority of mGG leadership responsibilities. Asra and myself will still be around in much the same capacity as Thoth and Muex, to advise when requested and to run things when needed. But for the most part I'll just be another bloke around the place with no special responsibilities.

I had always planned to consider whether I would hang around after SEANA concluded anyway. And I always kinda assumed that I would still be around to make sure that SEANA 2 was bigger money, bigger players and an even bigger success. But at this point in time I don't have the heart for SC2, I don't represent what an mGG leader should represent and I'm not entirely sure I represent even what an mGG member should represent. In the vast majority of ways I am proud of the past 18+ months that I have been involved with running mGG alongside Alpha and Nem. All told we have some massive things to be proud of. A 9 clanwar winning streak, players into ACL groups, players in sponsored teams and an international tournament that clocked thousands of unique viewers and got mentioned by casters of both WCS and MLG ("Oh, I saw Puck/Polt play some sick games on the weekend during this little thing called SEANA").

But I also know there were many things I didn't handle properly. When ViBe got pissed at how long SEANA was taking, telling him to suck it up might not have been the best move ever. On the other hand we told everyone the bracket format so he should have known. 50/50 on that one. There was supposed to be an awesome write up after SEANA as well, and there was half of one, but I never got around to finishing it. At that point it was so heavily (and unconsciously) NA biased I couldn't in good conscience post it. So it never ended up getting done at all.

But mostly my regrets surround my failures in properly being a LEADER of mGG. To me a leader knows everyone under his wing's name and all their hopes and fears. He should be sitting down with them every night and talking to them, watching them play. Helping if able. And that is not something I have done to my satisfaction this year at all. I'm sure there are probably a few members who don't even know I'm meant to be a leader and perhaps haven't ever spoken with me since joining. I regret that we used to have the tightest knit divisions of any clan The mGG BSGs of 2012 were amazing. We would train together every night, go into every clan war knowing the result of each round before it happened because we were so in tune with each other. But then promotions come into it and certainly mGG BSG has never stopped being great, but never have we been as close either (But Vortex, Shade, Brax, Irish, Abyssal, and the list goes on, have such as bright future ahead if they maintain their current closeness).

Probably the final straw was Light's blog noting how isolated and alone he had felt. A member of my own clan coming out like that, I knew some pretty big failures had occurred somewhere along the line. These are the kinds of things that don't happen on my watch. Because I'm a perfectionist and I always get the job done. Except I haven't been doing that lately. So it's time for a change.

Nem has been with us since forever now. Slowly taking on more and more responsibility and I think one of, if not the, most enthusiastic mGGers we have. I would ask that Nirv take my "Leader of mGG" tag and pass it on to her *sniff*, as well as directing the recruitment applications to her (and still Alpha ofc) instead of me. I am certainly more proud than disappointed in my time as a leader, but there are other people with bigger hearts and more commitment than me, and they deserve the opportunity to steer.

Goose you are being far too hard on yourself, a couple of tiny blemishes on an amazing time should never be focused on! You guys have grown mGG into one of SEA's biggest and best clans and that is what you should focus on!

You have been a fantastic leader and mGG has been incredibly lucky to have you for so long. I hope you don't try and disappear from the community because I will find you and bring you back kicking and screaming!

Re: What do you call these things again? Feelings or something?

Yeah, I didn't quite want it to sound as negative as it has. Certainly I have think I have had more successes than failures. This is more along the lines of I've had my best crack and I dont feel that my second 12 months could possibly have been of the same standard as my first 12 months, and so decided to step aside to let others shine. I don't know how much hanging around I will do. No internet at home atm because of a move, and I'm doubtful whether the internet will be good enough to play when it does come in. It defs wont be good enough to watch streams, etc. But hopefully it is good enough to play some or at least watch some customs, and I can find the time to get back to basics with SC2 and find my drive again.

Re: What do you call these things again? Feelings or something?

Don't be too hard on your self Goose, you been good Leader to mGG!

Different People see differently on what they define or see in a Leader. To what you believe as what a leader should be, is not wrong. But you can still lead by example. Being a leader doesn't mean you have to 100% get involved with everything in mGG (since there are more then 1 leader in mGG), that's what having few leaders in mGG is all about and the benefit of having a few leaders, so you don't have to shoulder everything (similar to a board of directors in a company to help make decision, not just one person alone).

In my opinion, i think you should still keep the leader status, but your responsibility is defined by you on what or how much responsibility you want to take on.

Just do whatever you think is right! mGG will support whatever your decision is.

Hopefully you will be still around in sC2, Skype and sc2sea (in this order)! Otherwise we have got no choice to do:

ALL ABOARD THE FEELS TRAIN. ;___________;

I think you're a great leader. Sure things here and there didn't go so well but you're one of the people that made mGG what it is today, the most fantastic bunch of people I've joined up with.

All the best, and thank you boss. See you around!

Yeah I'll be calling you doc or boss still, since you're still one to us.

This blog makes me sad but dun disappear please. You have always been the stable and wise one. Even amongst the leadership team, your words of wisdom has always held the greatest weight.

A little loss for words... *sniff*

AND this is the 2nd time u put me in the hot seat without asking me [One recalls the time Goose puts me in the Captain's Chat before asking me if I wanted to; catching me totally by surprise and speechless then as well]

Vortex is also right. We have a team of leaders. I know real life stuff, the move, the baby's going to take up heaps of your time. I hope we will still see u pop in to interact with us, listen to our squabbles, express your opinion that all so often helped etc.

Stopping here because words just cant express more about how I feel and how much a major part of mGG that Goose will always be

Nononono. I Explicitly remember talking about this. Although since Ali and the captain chat are right next to each other, I do have a habit of talking to Ali when I think I'm talking to everyone... .

I can relate to a lot of what you say DrGoose, but whilst you might not be able to be the same leader as you once were, it doesn't mean what you are now is less important.

Find what works now and find enjoyment from the game and the clan.

Every little bit, no matter how small, will help your clan.

Please dont leave us

I agree with Ben. No matter what you do or how big it is, anything you do will help mGG!

I've been with mGG since early 2012 and watching it grow has been amazing. Goose you have done an amzing job and shouldn't feel bad for one second. At some point you have to put the real world first and I'm glad you are doing that. With a child on the way you would be stupid to devote so much time to mGG. I thank you for being one of the main reasons mGG has become a very professional and well run clan I hope to still see you around every now and then!

Goose Goose Gooose mate i think your the third great leader of mgg. If it was not for you i would not of been playing clan wars and still be a bronze terran. Your the guy who thought about giving me a chance. You are a good leader there is just alot of things which are happening in your life know. You just need to take a very very very very deep breath and realise what you have done for mgg. But thank you for what you did for me and mgg.

And also who would be brave enough to say suck it to Vibe like come on dude that takes some guts.

Goodbye my PHD wielding zerg friend.

It's good that you know when to put real life ahead, in the end that's what matters. It sucks that you have lost your passion but there is nothing you can do about that, it just happens.

Without you and Asra, mGG would of taken a different path and wouldn't be what it is now not to mention the work Asra put into BSG. I haven't spoken to Asra as much as Goose but I still wish you both the best

Guess you're a duck this time around.

I'm sure Asrathiel's heart-eating squirrels are still around lurking

I miss both of them already :'(

Re: What do you call these things again? Feelings or something?

Hats off and thanks for the time and effort put in DrGooSe.
I personally never had the chance to get to know you much at all but I watched the mGG start out and helped promote the community side of the clan week in and week out with CwnAnnwn and MueX on the abandoned sea bnet forums. The clan helped create the nicer attitude to SC2 Sea seems to have as apposed to NA. I only recently joined but mGG is great bunch of people that has obviously come together though years of smart & hard work and just having fun.

To the future and it's obvious to anyone in the know that there are no better hands that this clan could fall into than the hands of Nemesis. mGG Fighting!!!

No offence, but IMO this is bullshit. It's impossible to be like this with a ~20 person clan, let alone something as massive as mGG. You should be incredibly proud of what mGG has become. Everyone goes through times they aren't as active in the game or the clan as they would like to be in a perfect world. It's a testament to you and the of the rest of mGG's leadership's ability that it keeps going without you micromanaging it.

I get annoyed when I stuff up... maybe I let someone join who ends up not fitting in. Maybe a clanwar isn't organised as smoothly as I'd like. But the proudest moments are when shit like that almost happens, and I don't have to deal with it because of the people I have around me.

Sad to see you go, but even when leaving you've done right by us and chosen an excellent person to fill the void.
Stick around on skype and stuff, happy to have a chat. Best of luck for everything

Re: What do you call these things again? Feelings or something?

I know where you are coming from
I made mistakes leading FaDe and I hurt feelings in the best interest of clan and team
I certainly know the frustration to have a small tight knit group and then having the clan expand to the point where you see cliques forming within and you don't know or talk to all the members
I don't think you should have packed it in and you could have adapted and that is possibly where you went wrong. Not telling off a guy or not finishing a write up but not adapting the different manner in which you lead a larger group of people

Anyway sad to see you step down. Had a lot of respect for mGG

Chasu Mon, 12th-Aug-2013 11:36 PM

Re: What do you call these things again? Feelings or something?

Awww I am going to miss you and Asra heaps! even though I'll be going very soon as well, atleast I can still annoy you via fb

Thanks for all the times you've supported me as a player and as a human being, you've definitely got great leader qualities, even though you may not see what we do, being that you helped push little mGG so far along as to have it's very own pro tournament and have MLG level players (even the winner Polt) taking part and playing in it.

You may feel like you have let down some as you mention about Light's blog and the mGG BSG, but you've given me, as well as many others, a family and home in this scene. As the 2012 mGG P/D graduated into the 2013 M/GM it is today we've grown close to the point where I look forward to logging on after school and yelling and bitching at Probe while Nem tries to settle us down. Or there's even been times where benelings and fender have helped me develop my guitar playing and with their help I'm posting videos of my guitar playing on facebook (got 84 likes one one video woooooo) where 2 years ago I was very shy and clanless (which is the complete opposite of me now haha) Don't feel like you've let your clanmates down, because for every small bad thing that's occured there has been 100s of good ones that you are and are not aware of that had happened in the clan.

You're very successful not only in the big and scary real life out there, but also in growing our clan into what it is today, ordering us shirts and supporting us as well as the scene for the better part of almost 2 years.
You are also successful in my heart
