AVCon, Games Development and Slugs
 

So I felt it was time to write a blog about the all goings on in my life at the moment, just in case anyone was interested!

So you should all know AVCon is coming up, with the starcraft tournament, which I am super keen to catch. But for me AVCon has another big event happening and that is the Indie Games Room. The reason its big is that we are going to be showing off the game that I have been working on for the last few months. The wonderful Flamga got me on a podcast last week about it for the AVCon Review here



For those who don't know, after leaving 2K once BioShock Infinite was done, I joined an adelaide based developer called Overbyte (www.overbyte.com.au). We are almost like video game contractors, we help others get games done, either by doing it all ourselves, coming in as an extra pair of hands or doing code evaluations and optimisatons.

We have been working with another Adelaide based company called Monkeystack on their title Double Happy vs the Infinite Sadness - http://www.doublehappyrabbits.com/. AVCon will be the first time the title is shown off to the public and indeed outside of Monkeystack and Overbyte. It will be hands on too!



Showing off your new game for the first time is a terrifying and exciting time. The fact that it is also hands on, pushes it way more into the terrifying side! We dont want a Windows 98 Demo here!



This demo already takes up a lot of my time each work, however this isn't the only project Overbyte are working on currently. And since I am the senior programmer and the lead is on 6 week holidays at the moment, this means it falls on my shoulders to make sure these others are done too... Busy times

So this explains why I have been very quiet lately in the scene and I am really thankful to the rest of the leadership team in FS and every member who have put in the hard yards to keep things going while I am so busy. I can't wait to get playing again regularly, but I think that won't happen until August.

On top of all that I just purchased my first house and will be moving there at the end of July... Just to make things more fun.. At the same time Overbyte is moving to our new office, so no more working from home.. Needless to say its all happening atm!

Anyway I hope to see heaps of you at AVCon. I will be at the Double Happy booths 12-4 Saturday and 11-3 Sunday. I'll be trying to watch the starcraft as much as I can too.

I second Rossi, I'd come down and check it out if I was going to Avcon.

I think I speak for all of FS when I say we want our glorious leader back, but real life comes first! Good luck with it all Ben.
