Hi SC2SEA, it's been a while!

I played StarCraft today, and got into diamond. And I almost DC'd from two games because this year, every time I wanted to play StarCraft, the universe would conspire against me and ruin my internet in one way or another. I'm not kidding, this doesn't happen when I play dota.

Anyway, I played SC2 today. I guess that doesn't sound like much. But I played SC2, and found it fun, which I feel is a huge accomplishment because some time near the beginning of this year I pretty much lost all passion for SC2. I remember asking aLt how to beat ladder apathy, because on the days that I would play SC2, a lot of the time I would play one game, win or lose, and then stop.

I think the beginning of this phase was just before the announcement of Aus Dota2 servers. It timed itself out pretty well to snatch me from SC2. So I pretty much spent all of my time playing dota, and I got pretty good at it, 99% percentile diamond when DBR still existed. It was fun, because before dota2 I never actually played dota properly. I had never used obs wards in dota1 or anything involving hero roles or dota theory. So playing dota2, where I could now assign hotkeys for items (one of the biggest and best changes I feel), and do things I never even thought about, like letting the carry take cs, using smoke, trilanes, etc.

It was like learning an new game. I always felt like I enjoyed SC2 most back in like 2011, when xelnaga caverns was all the rage, and no one had any idea what they were doing. Because instead of just copying the builds of pros and following the metagame, I actually would try to figure out why I lost games and how I can adapt my own style of play. And it was that learning that made the game fun for me. But eventually that stopped, and the game changed from a real time strategy to a real time copy builds you see in the GSL, and if you lose, do the same thing until it works.

I remember a month or two ago, I felt inspired to play SC2 because I imagined not playing standard every game. Getting phoenix with +1 armour in PvT, 1gate stargate expands in PvZ, and just trying all sorts of cheeses in PvP. And as soon as I got home, the internet was horrible and I never got to try any of those things and went to play dota instead.

I honestly think if it wasn't for SEACL, I wouldn't have played at all in the past 2 months.


I watched one game from MLG, and it just happened to be MC vs MVP, and he used oracles and phoenix. And won.

so I played SC2 today! And I tried to do a similar thing in my PvT, and my builds were horrible and I would have got rolled if I wasn't diamond. Past the cybernetics core, I don't know what I'm doing. I guess if I wanted to improve quickly I would go watch some streams or replays and copy build orders. But I'm not going to do that. I'm just going to play, and lose a lot of games because my build is horrible, but I don't mind because it'll be fun.


I feel a bit stupid for writing all of this, I don't want to go back and read what I wrote because the chances are I'll delete everything. But what I'm trying to say is, I feel like SC2 is fun and if it stays this way, maybe I'll keep playing.


If I have time, that is. I have a whole lot of work I'm meant to do that doesn't involve starcraft. And part of me thinks "oh it's okay, it's not week 5 yet I have plenty of time", and another part of me knows I will hate myself and everything that has ever existed if I don't start early.

I try not to complain though, because one of my friends has four 9 am starts, a wednesday from 9-5 without any breaks, and work on friday. That starts at 9am. lol


oh, and SEA players are doing so well nowadays. unless i suck at remembering tweets, mafia rank 1 NA and rossi held 50 viewers, and I don't want to start listing because then I'll leave people out. but to everyone who is kicking ass, well done!
