For most of my SC2 journey so far I’ve been using a very rigid 20-games-per-day program to keep track of my progress & make sure I haven’t been slacking off. I haven’t hit 20 games per day every single day for the past 1.5 years, but I think I can safely say that I hit 75%. On average my daily played games would hover around 16-18 SC2 games.
What I didn’t calculate into this was that 20 games was actual in-game games played. This didn’t include replay analysis, build refinement, reading up... [Read More]
A Primer to Natural Selection 2
for Starcraft Players
10 years to the day after it's original release as a Half Life mod Natural Selection 2 is now finally a full commercial title running on it's own engine. My history with the game is not as a competitive player but just as a fan of Half Life mods who had stumbled upon it many years ago and enjoyed the asymmetric play style in a shooter environment.
When the team started accepting pre-orders in order to fund further development of the... [Read More]
Just a quick blog to talk about the Flight over..(wrote this heading as I started - nek minnit - its huge. warning - salut to you if you read it all!)
Au revoir Australie 29th October 9:35 am - Leave Australia. Gold Coast airport bound for Singapore. Our trip was pretty well organised, fly to Singapore - wait a few hours there, with plenty of time to get to our connecting flight. Then fly to Paris with Emirates with a stop over in Dubai (if you check out a map, its a pretty direct route.... [Read More]
So, I went to GOM last night to watch the up-and-downs.
First I figured out how to get to mok dong, showered, shaved etc. And then headed out on what I was told would be an hour-and-a-half journey by taxi-subway-subway-walk.
I'm totally aclimated now so I just get in the taxi and say "bucheon Yeok" like a boss, dat right, they understand me and all. I totally speak korean.
And then my second time on the subway alone! I knew which platforms to go to but couldn't tell which train so i... [Read More]
“I had a dream that was Starcraft, and now that dream is gone from me”
A touch melodramatic, no? But it’s a melodramatic time in the Starcraft community.
You see, apparently, Starcraft is dying. At least that’s what I’ve learned at TeamLiquid and Reddit this past month. This came as something as a surprise to me, since I’ve been involved in the Starcraft community for over a decade, and I cannot remember there being more tournaments, coverage, and... [Read More]
This weekend my wife decided she wanted to play LoL. I've always been a little reserved on LoL. Being a hardcore sc2 fan & player, I somehow found myself on the bandwagon that LoL is the darkside and I should keep my distance from it. I'm glad to be proven wrong, LoL is beautiful.
A little background on my SC2 experience. Long story short, I use to be a pro CS player back in 2002 where we made WCG that year. Ever since then I stopped gaming competitively but consistently played casually... [Read More]
Maybe it's the end of the road. But the end of a road is but a bend in the road. As National Service has stopped many competitive gamers' paths, it has also halted mine. As I enlist tomorrow, it will be awhile till I'll show up in eSports again.
The journey has been fun. Full of excitement, self-disappointments, ecstasy, adrenaline-pumping moments. So many memorably silly moments, so many unglamorous photos. The best thing was that I've got to travel. Coming from a not-so-well-off family,... [Read More]
"The gameplay in SC2 is boring and repetitive, it's just the same thing over and over again"
The guy with the sunglasses is how I imagine people that complain about this...
This is a phrase I've heard quite a bit recently. You know, the truth of the matter is, everyone sucks at SC2 and barely grasps how the game works. For the last 2 years everyone has described concepts in the game using relationships and examples from Broodwar or occassionally Warcraft 3. But... [Read More]
This past week was the fifth birthday contest, a four-day puzzle hunt. The winner was Pox, who solved almost everything in the final 24-hours.
Worked solutions are now available at the puzzle pages here, and a full guess log here.
The following are some comments about the design and thoughts behind how the puzzles turned out.
Overall format
As several people have deduced, the format of the puzzle hunt is heavily inspired by the Melbourne Uni Maths and Stats Society - a series of... [Read More]

Hey guys, since i cannot sleep and i am very psyched about this plan, im gonna discuss my ideas and would love to receive any feedback
So currently, my school announced that all students would need to do this community and service project thingy.
Me and a friend thought of the idea of a gaming tournament due to the large number of gamers at my school
Currently, we are aiming to run tournaments for 3 games simultaneously all in 1 day.
This will obviously be run by my friends and a group of... [Read More]
So as some of you may know, several days ago the 5th Birthday contest started and it was a puzzle contest by xpaperclip. You can still try it here , but try not to click on the hints because he has released so many hints that some levels become meaningless. Many of us solved it without the hints so you should try it too!
This was supposed to be a triumphant blog entry celebrating my victory but unfortunately, Pox came from nowhere and SNIPEd the win in the last level. Since I had already... [Read More]
This is part 2 of my blogging series detailing my successes and failures with The Core and The Levels. Pretty much had some success with it this week and has been quite an interesting ride. If you want the TLDR then read below
Hotkey changes:
- Removed ALT as a hotkey, was too akward a position to use.
- Camera hotkeys moved to SHIFT + F5-8 and then F5-8 to recall.
- Cancel moved to spacebar, which I have found a lot easier to hit than F7 when cancelling. [Read More]
Hey guys, Just thought I'd write a bit up about the up-coming trip to Paris.
As some of you may know, young Petraeus and I are flying off to Paris on Monday for the ESWC - where Petraeus will do his best to represent our region on the world stage. Our trip is a fun adventure that see us leaving the Gold Coast at 9:25am on Monday and arriving in Paris at 7:30pm local time on Tuesday. That'll be a fun trip :S Our return trip is similar stacks of hours of flights and stop overs - we leave Paris... [Read More]

I have been unable to play sc2 for many many months (lost count) but now that I finally have a working computer and internet i'm thinking of giving sc2 another crack
Before I stopped playing I had been wanting to develop new hotkeys so what better time than when i've basically forgotten everything ^^
Old Hotkeys:
I used Grid before ("q" was the first square on the thingy "w" being second square etc) with space bar as cycle base hotkey. I didn't hotkey queens so I would basically use... [Read More]
Saturday was MaqLan, a large gaming event in Sydney with various tournaments such as SC2, LoL, TF2 and others! It was run by SOGC, which are the guys who allowed us to run the IeSF Aus Finals from their venue, and are some pretty awesome guys.
I was at the venue to help run the LoL event with Kwan and some others but that didn't stop me from catching a ton of the SC2 event.
Hey guys, I've been on the down low recently, due to work commitments (7 days a week for the past 6 weeks). From now on though, I will be continuing to play after I finish work each night. It would be really good to get some practice partners up if anyone is interested, and also, if anyone plays League of Legends a fair bit, I'm looking to form a competitive team after I reach level 30 again. If anyone is interested, again, just let me know!
Righto, that's all for now, expect to see my... [Read More]
It was a PvP on Ohana (I randomed), and given how I don't like PvP, I went for my standard PvP build:
