I've been getting a few requests to commentate my arena runs, so here's a little something to make up for the lack it. Thought it would be a nice change of rhythm from the weekly overview segments.
Here's the full drafting thought process of my 9-2 Druid run-
Murloc decks are the early cheese, the all-in of Hearthstone. Like Starcraft, it's a b*tch to play against, but fun to execute. There's all kinds of murloc decks out there today, but personally I feel Warlock is the most efficient fit. With a murloc aggro deck, the mentality is to draw and play as many cards as possible to end the game as quickly as possible.
There's been a influx of Hearthstone players lately, and perhaps many never experienced the era where rogue truly ruled town. Pre-patch rogues could add weapon damage with their hero power, shiv costs 1, headcrack was 2 mana, backstab had no limitations whatsoever. Oh, and the Defias brothers were 2/3 + 2/1 champions.
After the patch, it felt like rogues were nerfed to the ground. They seemed to cease existence in both arena & constructed. I myself... [Read More]
Finally it's mage time after a delay of 2-3 weeks!
I've been putting in a lot of hours with mage post-patch as my beloved rogue had to move town. Mage feels quite comfortable shifting from rogue. Giving up additional hero power damage for free reign on where we want to place that 1 damage. Not confined by taunt, not confined by divine shield, not confined by freeze. I've heard some people complain that mage is weak because of the hero power, but I have to disagree. Mage shines because of its... [Read More]
The new patch has hit for about 3-4 days now, and Rogues have to give up control of their towns back to scrubs. The Rogue nerfs feel a tad overboard, from being number 1 hero to number 9 zero. I was eager to keep going headstrong with Rogue in ranked post-patch, but after experimenting a few games on unranked it felt impossible. My Rogue spellpower deck is now defunct.
Rogue nerf first impressions:
- Backstab - This was a decent change. It doesn't seem... [Read More]
I’ve been playing a lot of Shaman lately, and have been enjoying the slow yet stern defensive pace. A lot of people seem to quickly nudge off Shaman to be a RNG hero since many of its spells & hero power rely on it. It’s true that the difference of a favorable RNG compared to a unfavorable one could mean winning or losing the match, but I feel that if you build your deck towards a defined goal the RNG leans more towards a bonus rather than a necessity.
As the game hasn’t gone through too many patches yet, I thought I’d make a record of my thoughts and progress. I’ll go through each of the heroes’ cards I have experience with first.
Hero experience in order:
1 - Rogue
2 - Mage
3 - Shaman
4 - Hunter
This is strictly just my personal playstyle, I have no idea if it’s the best or worst way to play. So this week let’s start with Rogue.
I’ve seen so many different styles of rogue. Although they may seem the same (coin + Defias Ringleader)... [Read More]
Now that I’ve hit Master 3 star ranked along with Grandmaster in arena, I feel a little more comfortable sharing my opinions and offering tips. Today will be a simple one, just throwing some general thoughts out there. This is by no means ‘correct’, it’s simply my experience so far with the game.
It's been a while since my last post, with a complete overhaul in the structure of the SC2 in the announcement of WCS, I think this is a good time to catch up.
Before the WCS announcement climbing the pro-gaming ladder was very straight forward. GSL sits on top of the food chain as the ultimate goal for every SC2er. A tier below that would be MLG, IEM, IPL, Dreamhack, NASL, Homestory Cup. Another level down would be the global online tournaments, Playhem, ZOTACs. Below that would be regional... [Read More]
Functionality: I've never had a keyboard that has USB & earphone/mic slots on it. I'm a heavy user of thumb drives, and the earphone/mic slots at the front of my CPU case doesn't work so this was an amazing addition to my battlestation. No more reaching out to the dusty back to plug/unplug headsets!
Black switch experience: I've been using brown/red switches for years now before the switch to MEKA G1. I have to admit the transition... [Read More]
January went by in a breeze. 2013 has kicked off quite pleasantly. I've kept to my resolutions, had a calendar going tracking all the events and ended up entering 8 tournaments & 1 clanwar over the month. That's more events in 1 month than the whole Q4 of 2012 for me.
1st month complete
Results wise, I'm happy with my current progress. I feel I'm a bit ahead of where I thought I was. Throughout the tournaments I've been taking games off players that I felt were way out of my league.... [Read More]
I know this is a few days late, but I'm basing my official SC2 new year to begin on the week of January 7th. I've been spending nice quality time with family since December 22. It'll be a while till I get a chance to hang out with them like this again so I'm enjoying it to the fullest extent. 2012 has been such a full year full of new experiences and blown minds. I feel it's exceptionally good timing that the 2012 ended around now, and eSports can take a breath to kick start 2013~
A very Merry Christmas to you all, and if you don't celebrate then I wish you a wonderful day ahead!
Lets take a moment off the monitor and spend a little time with our loved ones, especially those that support our eSports passion. There's never a perfect moment to say "I love you", "Thank you", or "I appreciate you". Lets make that moment today.
For most of my SC2 journey so far I’ve been using a very rigid 20-games-per-day program to keep track of my progress & make sure I haven’t been slacking off. I haven’t hit 20 games per day every single day for the past 1.5 years, but I think I can safely say that I hit 75%. On average my daily played games would hover around 16-18 SC2 games.
What I didn’t calculate into this was that 20 games was actual in-game games played. This didn’t include replay analysis, build refinement, reading up... [Read More]
This weekend my wife decided she wanted to play LoL. I've always been a little reserved on LoL. Being a hardcore sc2 fan & player, I somehow found myself on the bandwagon that LoL is the darkside and I should keep my distance from it. I'm glad to be proven wrong, LoL is beautiful.
A little background on my SC2 experience. Long story short, I use to be a pro CS player back in 2002 where we made WCG that year. Ever since then I stopped gaming competitively but consistently played casually... [Read More]
I just realized I never shared this here, so here it is
Context: I was replying to a forum post about improvement and promotion. I ended up writing a wall of text. Thought it might help others going through same journey~
Here’s my 2cents for chasing a promotion & improving up to Diamond:
Pick one Build Order for all matchups:
Pick a safe standard opening for your race and do it across your match-ups. The reason for picking only ONE build order, is so that you can spend the rest of... [Read More]
I just thought I'd share this, an opposite of how CNN portrayed us gamers.
Ironmen is a TESL (Taiwan Esports League) SC2 team, that held a press conference/event for fans as they're going to start competing internationally.
The host seen in the pictures, is a very well known TV host, he has shows everyday on prime time in local Taiwan TV.
In the video clip, he states to the reporters that he has acknowledged all 17 members of Ironmen as his god-sons, as he has a son in the states who... [Read More]
