[Interview] Get to know your eSports Managers: SYF.tRoy

With all these players going around and since we’re starting to interview them, we decided to start interviewing the people that make sure these players are in their peak form. We decided to start with the recently announced SYF Gaming’s Troy. Troy is the new found leader of SYF Gaming’s Starcraft 2 division despite coming into the scene at a young age.

Hey Troy, can you introduce yourself to the audience and who you are and your position in SYF Gaming?
Hello, my name is Troy ‘tRoy’ Lonergan, I’m 16 years old from Melbourne, Australia. I am the manager for the newly formed SYF GAMING StarCraft 2 Division as well as the event manager for the organisation.

What does your job at SYF Gaming entail? What can you bring to the table that others might not be able to?
As event manager I run all tournaments and community events we decide to do, I’ve only been in eSports for just over a year but I’ve ran heaps of tournaments for both Call of Duty and StarCraft. I’m pretty experienced when it comes to running tournaments I guess. As the Starcraft 2 manager I provide the players with any support they may need, SYF GAMING had considered bringing in a StarCraft division before but never really had a management member who knew much about the game or the community.

Can you tell us anymore about SYF Gaming and their history?
Well SYF GAMING formed in 2007 so I was like 9-10 when they came along, but they first started as a CoD4 team with a group of teenage mates. Since then we have won 17 tournaments in Call of Duty, Team Fortress, Counter Strike and Heroes of Newerth. Hopefully we can add some StarCraft 2 tournaments to that list in the near future. Jeremy ‘Spud’ Tate is still the owner and is doing a brilliant job at running the organisation.

So for the past year, what experiences have you gotten in both running tournaments and in managing a team?
When I first came to eSports I was playing Call of Duty on the Xbox 360, that was pretty fun and all. But somehow I decided to run a tournament and since then I’ve stopped playing competitively and focus on running events and teams. This year I’ve had 2 awesome experiences from eSports and Gaming in general. One was PAX Australia, I worked the full three days there and it was amazing, seeing that many gamers all in one place sharing the same love was so cool. Second was ACL Melbourne, I had hosted a few offline events in internet cafes but it doesn’t even compare to ACL. The production and quality of the event is brilliant and the ACL Team does such a good job. As a manager my best moment or experience was probably winning SEACL Tier 3 when we first started, while it was nothing big it was the first thing one of my teams had won.
