Recap:

Brought to you by Alienware and Gamespot, organised by SC2SEA and hosted at Alienware's brand new LAN cafe at Lucky Chinatown. This tournament saw FlashdraKe emerge as champion, winning his first big tournament and a brand new x51 Alienware desktop! After fininshing first in his group stage, he beat TNLadyBug 2-0, then DM.MCZ River and EveVendetta in two close series 2-1 to go on to a clean 3-0 victory in the finals.

There were two very strong notable performances to mention. FaDeManly originally meant to play in the Amateur bracket, finished second in his first ever tournament, knocking out hot favourite EveYekke and EveDougy along the way. EveVendetta also places in 3-4th in one of his first tournaments. eehanWrath wins the honour of finishing as the highest ranked amateur, making it to the top 8 defeating DM.MCZ DgNa (boyfriend of Polaris). Other amateurs mGGGlazed, mGGTartarsause, TNLadyBug, Rstnpss and FlashAccel also put up good fights against the Pro players.

Full Brackets

Note: As part of their opening special, Alienware Arena @ Chinatown will be free to play from 12-pm-6pm on Monday-Thursday this week!

Smiley: Thumbs up

This was one of the best organised LANs I have seen. Good marshal to players ratio. Good management of matches and stream allocation. Fantastic food.

Here are some ways that might improve this already awesome LAN even further(at the same time encourage people to support our local sc2 talents):

1. For crowd retention, perhaps have hourly giveaways(using the beta keys/posters maybe) to non-players, and a grand lucky draw after the finals match.

2. To break the monotony of 1v1s, perhaps include a game of FFA before the final match if time permits (Helios's idea).

Or simply handicapped team matches for public vs pros (that are already eliminated). Give it a cool alienware related name. let the public form teams of 3, and let them choose how many pros they decide to challenge (1, 2 or 3) IP MAN style. Of course this is just for fun and if we really have a crowd(hint: include prizes too).

Of course, these are merely some suggestions, not taking anything away from the great effort put in by nirvana and his team in this awesome tournament.

Congratulations Drake, I see that your TvP has improved heaps. I missed this event and I'll be damn sure to watch the vods later. Vendetta has always been super good so I wasn't too suprised there, I remember him always kicking my ass back in the days, even when were both nGen.

agree with what wrath said. Because everything ran pretty smoothly, and the fact that it was a Single Elimination tournament, everything was really ahead of schedule, so all those activities that he suggested would have been great as a filler!

Additionally, i think the place is a really great venue. Space wise, probably can't seat many though. Perhaps they could invest in a sound proof booth so that perhaps, live casting/streaming can be done WHILE the players are on main stage. Casting adds a lot of value to games that are being watched "live" .

Its one of the best lan tournament organised in Singapore so far.

Lanshop wise: Theres no issues with the usual space constraints faced in lanshop as this lanshop is so damn huge and the spectator area with the arm chairs are so comfy!! This place has lots of potential to be a regular tournament area with the stage setup and ample computers Of course not forgetting the very nice lunch and refreshments!

Organisation was smooth and fluid and i think it even ended way earlier than expected on the first day lol.

Some feedback/thoughts:

1) I think this lan brought out many new and potential starcraft 2 players in Singapore with the 60+ sign up on amateur. However i feel that the amateur and pros should be separated or categorised differently in the brackets, going against a GM/M when you're in BSG could really be quite demoralising. I guess a seperate bracket for the lower tier with a reduced prizepool or smth could encourage signs up and promote some healthy competition.

2) Double elim for brackets would be good since there was quite alot of time spared from the first day and 2nd(if all games didnt have to be streamed)

3) I'm not sure if its the internet speed or the stream quality that day but the stream at the venue was quite choppy and bad at certain times. One of the pts to look out for if theres a barcraft event

Thanks for organising this event! Barcraft type event in the lanshop would be great idea

Hi SC2sea peeps,

I felt that it was a great and well-organised tournament, good job!

Everything went smoothly thanks to the marshallers for doing a good job on managing the time during the tournament. It was also awesome to allow some of the players to try out SC2 HotS on some of the terminals. Oh oh! And the food was GREAT!

Here are some of my feedbacks on how the event could have been improved:

1) Double elimination instead of single as there was plenty of time on each day.

2) Eliminated players should be automatically placed in a KOTH so that they can stay longer to compete

3) Hourly lucky draws would be a good way to make both players and spectators stay throughout the day as there was nothing much to do after they got eliminated

4) Set-up a booth specifically for people who are interested to receive free coaching and tips from the Pros to keep them engaged. Followed by a Q&A session.

5) This point is more for the spectator side, have an emcee on stage or walking around the event area to engage the spectators by asking them questions, di siao-ing them so on and so forth.

Apart from that, I thought the tournament went really went. I didn't have much of an issue regarding GM and Masters league players in the Amateur side as the group stages were quite balanced and everyone had a decent shot in going to the Ro16.

Thanks SC2sea for organising this event!
