Need help advancing leagues

I read on the forums the other day that (not quoting) most players cheese to get to Diamond and thats where the real learning begins. I am in silver and cheesing is really against my Starcraft 'morales'. I never cheese and I've been stuck at rank 1 silver versing rank 3 and 4 golds and im winning 75% of my games. But i feel I'm not getting promoted because every so often I lose to cheese. So was that person on the forums right? Should the community get ANOTHER cheeser so I can advance (I truly dont want to do this.) Or should I keep grinding until I get promoted?

Chances are you are close to promotion, just hang in there. If you're beating higher league players consistently then it's only a matter of time until you move up. You don't need to cheese your way to diamond.

If you want a detailed look at how the promotion system works, there's a thread on team liquid that explains the MMR system, not sure of the thread title though.

Cheesing shouldn't be against your sc morales unless you do it most of the time, it is simply a sacrificing of economy to gain a military or tech advantage. But don't feel pressured to cheese, you can definatley get to diamond without cheesing. If you keep grinding in the long term you will be a better player then people who cheese MOST of the time.

I cheesed my way to diamond before.. But you will really suffer once you reach top diamond since your mechanics are not at top diamond level.. Training your mechanics to top diamond is the way to go and you wont struggle once you reach top diamond.

Cheesing is actually good to play against because it helps develop your game understanding.

If you're forced to think and adapt to counter certain cheese tactics, when you face an unusual strategy in another game or vs unorthodox playstyles or perhaps just a well done startegy by a better player - your mind will be more trained and prepared to adapt and counter it.
