SC2SEA BSG Open #06

SC2SEA.COM's BSG Open #06

Click the image to open in full size.

Hey guys! I'm back :) I've got my computer back; and it seems somewhat more stable these day than it did the other week, which is good! Also, after some deliberation I have slightly modified the format of the BSG Open and this will most likely be the layout for the weeks to come.

I'd also like to give a shout-out to Sixth for putting together last weeks BSG on such short-notice and to Nirvana for giving him a hand =) So with that house-keeping aside, onto the details of this weeks BSG Open...

The BSG Open #06 is a 64-player event.

The hall of fame, for SC2SEA.com's BSG Open, thus far:

BSG Open # Winner Interview Replay-Pack
#01 Fusion.835 Link Link
#02 mustapusta.239 Link Link
#03 Phoenix.338 Link Link
#04 Jings Link Coming Soon
#05 Noobinater Link Coming Soon

Participate and hopefully win this tournament and you'll have some solid, tried and true advice to guide you in those future match-ups!
Battle.net Chat-Channel: "sc2seaBSG".

Rules and Regulations

· All results must be sent to me in-game via private message at SkyBreaker.895.
· Players must be logged into SCII SEA region 15 minutes before their match-up. Players who are 15 or more minutes late will be disqualified and their opponent will be given an automatic win.
· Matches will be played as a Bo1 with the exception of the semi-finals and finals; which will be played as a Bo3.
· A replay-pack from the winner of the BSG must be sent to Skybreaker.895@gmail.com.
· Spectators will be allowed, however permission must be granted by both players in the current match-up. Referees and casters will also be allowed to spectate.
· If any disconnects occur within the first two minutes of game-play, the match will be replayed. However if the disconnect occurs after two minutes of game-time, then it is up to the discretion of the referee to decide whether; A) the game is to be replayed, or B) player X/Y is to be awarded the win.
· Any disputes will be handled by myself after reviewing all associated replays.
· Any inappropriate behaviour will result in a disqualification.

Map List

The first map of each round is pre-determined and outlined in the following list. The losing player of each match will decide the subsequent map. The map pool is as follows:

Ro64: Steppes of War.
Ro32: Blistering Sands.
Ro16: Jungle Basin.
Ro8: Lost Temple.
Semi-Finals: Xel'Naga Caverns.
Finals: Metalopolis.

Brackets

Brackets are automatically generated when I begin the tournament and will be posted directly to this thread so you will see who your opponent is, with ease, throughout the tournament. When the brackets are created, it is your sole responsibility to find your opponent, their character code and add them in-game and begin your matches.

Prizes

The current prize will be all the fame and glory that is associated with winning a SCII tournament, as well as a short interview with the winner on the site (www.sc2sea.com). Due to the nature of this tournament, we at sc2sea.com have decided it is in the best interest for all players involved if the prizes focused less on money and items and more so on helping them become a better gamer!

The winner's prize for the BSG Open #06 will to have three replays of their choice watched and analyzed by a SCII SEA pro! So if you're having trouble in a certain match-up, even a certain map or possibly against a certain unit composition - participate in this tournament for a chance to have those problems that are holding you back outlined for you to improve on!

Important Information

Pleasure ensure you have your correct SEA SCII name and character code in your sc2sea.com profile, which can be found here. This will help reduce any problems people may face when having to search for their opponent's character name & code.

FAQ

I have written up a short FAQ covering a few questions that I get asked quite a bit throughout the tournament. Please ensure you read through them to maximize the smoothness of the tournament.

+ Show +
Q) Do I begin my RoX matches?
A) Yes, unless I have asked you to wait so I can bring the streamer/caster into the game, please begin your game(s) immediately.

Q) I can't find my opponent?
A) Their battle.net name and character code should be in their sc2sea.com profile, if it isn't, try finding them via the chat. If you have no success tracking them down, please wait 15minutes before messaging me informing me of the scenario and I will DQ the player.

Q) What map am I on?

A) Please refer to the rules and regulations of the tournament.

Q) I'm ready for my RoX match! Where is my opponent?
A) If the bracket hasn't been updated, it means your opponent is still in-game on his current RoX match.

Q) Hey, my opponent DC'ed, but he's back online, what do I do?

A) Please refer to the rules and regulations of the tournament.

To ensure the tournament is run smoothly and efficiently for everyone; once the tournament has started, please only contact me in-game to inform me of results, disputes and no-shows. Any other questions will be answered with a link to this thread; as all other information has been outlined in here.

Regards,
SkyBreaker

Reserved for updates and/or changes.

Update (30/01/11)
After the positive feedback received from the change to 8pm AEST/5pm SGT the starting time will remain the same, however again after taking some feedback into consideration I have changed the layout of the semi-finals to be played as a Bo3 now, up from a Bo1.

Update (31/01/11)

The BSG will be streamed and casted live @ FXOpenEsports ft. Guest Pro Unstable.

Can we not have steppes in the map pool? I think most people would agree that it's pretty bad :/

The maps that are selected for each BSG are final and are in most cases; won't be altered after the creation of the tournament thread. But don't worry, the map-pool changes weekly.

At your level of play I guarantee you that it will NOT be the map that makes you lose but something YOU have done wrong so stfu about imbalance and play the game to fix your own errors

Haha I thought I deleted my post but ahwell. You should send a special early scout on steppes just incase of cheese like 6pool. Anyway +1 for removing steppes. Yes, unstable has a valid point on the skill level, but playing on fair grounds would be nice.

Guys, unfortunately I agree with Unstable. The point of this tournament is to improve; not to just win & have fun; which is why the set-up is how it is.

If Steppes of War isn't a map you find yourself confident on; this tournament (with the great commentating and winning-prize) is a great way to improve. At the end of the day, sure you can down-vote a map in the preferences, but if you want to improve overall you're going to have to become comfortable with your most uncomfortable maps sooner or later.

Have an open mind

How about including a rule saying "You must have at least 1 win in 1v1 league in the past week and it must be search-able in your match history." What is the point of joining this BSG to try to improve on your player when you are not laddering actively?

In my opinion from the games I've seen from the stream, some players seemed to be way better than a typical BSG standard. And when you check their match history, you cant really find a recent 1v1 ladder win.

One more thing, I find it funny when Unstable get worked up over all the mistake that BSG players like me make and he got to endure the sub standard games for 3hours weekly on average. Or maybe I'm just a sadist.

P.S Please continue to cast my games in BSG if possible. :P

Hey again Sky,

Thnx for keeping the BSG's comming. Such a good oppertunity to practice and have some fun in a good tourney format.

One question though? (regarding the maps thing...sorry) Are you planning on moving into some other maps besides the Blizz official ones. By that I mean something like the ICCUP maps, or GSL maps? Not neccessarily for this tourney, but maybe in the future?

Not saying I don't like your current map pool (cept basin, cause it's gay) and I agree that in order to improve we need to play on the maps we're most uncomfortable with. It's just ICCUP (and to an extent, some of the new GSL maps) has some truley awesome maps, and I'm pretty sure they're all fairly well balanced. (My favorite ICCUP map is called Sangsu Crossing or something like that, its baller!)

Could be cool to play on some official Tourney maps is all.

Anywho, talk to you tommorow.

No problems dude, I'm glad you're enjoying them =)

In regards to the ICCUP maps, I've looked into them and thought about potentially implementing them into the BSG however at the end of the day the sole-purpose of the BSG is for players to improve; hence the streaming & casting done with an educational mind-set so I think at this current stage it might be best for the BSG to feature ladder-only maps that are current in the SCII ladder map-pool. I mean, I'm aware a lot of people dislike my choices of including Jungle Basin and Steppes of War, but ultimately the reason they dislike the choice is because they feel uncomfortable on that map; so by "forcing" them to play on it, they might overcome that fear and overall become a more confident player.

That said I have plans in the near future to begin hosting a second tournament where I will probably make use of the ICCUP maps, it just depends on how much spare time I have - now that most of my days are spent training SCII before I begin laddering again =)

Koolies, thnx for that Sky.

I think the educational stand that you are taking for this tourney is a really good idea. So I can see where your comming from with the map pool thing. Keep up the good work buddy, see you tommorow.
