Hi everybody! After a long hiatus, I am back with a hardly-anticipated article, on the art of playing Terran! This article is targeted at players who is struggling to grasp the crux of Terran, and also maybe highlight a few tricks that is very handy to a Terran player.

Before I start, let me clarify by saying, no, I won’t be covering any cheesy methods of abusing Terran, just the basics on how to play Terran.

Tips :

1)Did you know you can press Ctrl-F1 to select ALL your idle workers? This is exclusive to Terrans as every building you need to have 1 worker, and sometimes with too much micro, your “Shift-Rally” will fail.
2)Did you know that bunkers can use stim pack?
3)Did you know that MULEs harvest at a rate of 6-7 SCVs? (means do NOT waste mana on scans unless necessary!)
4)Did you know that comparatively speaking, Terran fast expos are the weakest of all races? (SO DO NOT FE.)
5)Do not overlook the power of Reactors. I used to hate them; now I love them.
6)+3 attack upgraded marines makes everything un-upgraded look weak.

Game Tips :

1)A fully saturated mineral line can support about 4 Raxes with 1 factory with pauses in between.
2)Stim-Pack is steroids. Don’t overdose!
3)If you stim a marauder for an example, both marines and maruders stim! So do not control the marines and stim again! They’ll double stim!
4)Ravens PDD can turn the tides of battle if utilized properly.
5)Tanks when micro-ed is a lot better than auto-attack.
6)Expo-ing when you get your T2/2.5 up is always very safe. (ie factory/starport)

Build Orders :

The idea of everyone’s “Perfect” BO, is that you are able to consistently build workers whilst getting whatever you want. And since I said I won’t go out of the norm in this thread, for everyone struggling to pen down their BO and randomly building things when they feel like it, read on for a very basic yet widely utilized order!

Build constant SCVs,
10 food build a Supply Depot
12 food build a Barracks
13 Refinery
15 Oribtal Command

Laugh at me for posting such a thing, it seems simple, but I’ve witnessed countless people get it wrong. There’s only 4 numbers u need to remember!

General Unit Compositions

TvT : Tanks Vikings MMM
TvP : MMMG
TvZ MMMTTH / MMT(more favored nowadays)


MMM = Marine Marauder Medivacs
MM = Marine Medivac
T = Tanks
TH = Thors

Btw, on the ctrl + F1, it can also be used at the start of the game instead of drag/highlighting if it matters.
ctrl + F1, right click on patch then do usual split.
or a micro intensive to have fun with is
F1 , right click and repeat 6 times
Well this is not terran specific though.

On to terran, i think all players will drop down a mule the instant orbital gets done.
A trick is that you're actually able to spot mule landing through the fog or war so might be useful to have an idea when exactly orbital gets done.

Just something i have on my mind now .. lol

Ive talked to a few players about possibly writing some articles for the site. Some of which are Protoss players so look we are working on filling out the other races. Bare with us. Oxygen has really lead the charge though and will make it easier for other pros to write up some more articles.

Fanatic : Yeah, i know the ctrl-F1 is not exclusive to Terran, but the usage is almost exclusive to Terran as no other races would you have so many idle workers on an average game. :P

Nirvana : LOL. um, teamliquid.net has this thread, i cant really find it anymore, but its title is "small things that improve your game" so everyone gives one liners, and you learn from there!

Other things like flyer help, medivac drop whilst moving etc etc. can be found there(which is where i found out some of this stuffs)

Great read, your analysis of terran is OP. As for the fast expanding, now i see why i don't get such a huge advantage.

Nirvana should definitely write a protoss article, no doubt he is the best P.

Like, do not FE without aggression. or Turtle and expo. like for zerg they just expo first think later, so in in this case, i'm explictly referring to the 1rax FE strat as seen in the beta, followed by mass marines. that is incredibly weak imo. Most other strats revolving around 1 rax FE except for the reaper harass zerg into FE i feel is entirely useless.

That being said, if you reaper harass the zerg and FE, hes feeling the groove of baneling bust, you have a huge problem as well.

In short I just mean that it creates alot of weaknesses in your defence.

the weakness of 1 rax fe is not baneling bust, you can 15 cc and win vs aggro zerg, the problem is with macro zergs. the main style of zerg now is defend -> defend -> defend -> win, and 1 rax FE plays right into that.

I think playing a Flash sorta way, in expanding early and quickly upgrading bio weapons / armies / stim and all that good stuff is a good way to play however. Only problem I see with 1 rax fe, is that the Zerg just says LOL FAST 3rd, but I haven't seen that yet =_=

Any tips for TvZ, currently i'm weakeast TvZ... I used to play PvZ and that's even worst.

Usually i end up getting owned by speedlings + banelings and later mutas. Even when i move out with MM + thors they still get swarmed by a gazillion lings and some mutas and maybe even some roaches.
