well folks, I recieved some interesting( to me anyweay) news today. So after work i duck into my local (and regular ) EB shop, greet the same guy that i always see, prepare to put a pre-order on hots; only to discover that there is no allocated collectors edition and even more surprising was that the release date is slated for 2011, with him mumbling that void is 2012/13. Now as im a zerg and i know the guy i asked him to ensure my order for the standard was switched over to the ce as soon as it is available on EB's system.
Now the question is; i heard that there WAS a CE for Hots and that it would be a 2012 release.
I'd say it's a placeholder so they can take your preorder money now.
Bingo. Pre-orders are basically 'we want your money now for a product that will come in sometime in the future'
also, anyone who things pre-ordering a game is a guarantee that they will get it on release date is fooling themselves. read the fine print of the terms and conditions of pre-ordering and it basically says if you don't get your order too bad.
And considering it's now November, they would have already had to start making units to sell, which would mean a confirmed date, which would be posted all over the internet.
Why would you even listen to an EB employee? They're not gamers, they're sales(wo)men.

thread title conned me. at least make it a question. -_-;
Diablo 3 will come before HoTs anyway, so expect to wait a long time. And as TAJPMoney mentioned, Hots isn't even on beta yet.
I work for an Australian electronics retailer (Don't really want to say which one due to extremely strict company rules regarding internet posts) but most POS will have a temporary release date on any product that has not been given a definite release.
Happened for me with Fear 3 and even SC2 when it was release. The database had an availability date that was there simply so that it could be considered an orderable item.
