Introducing the SEA Rising Star Tournament Series
Powered by Nvidia!
The OSC team and Team Exile 5 are partnering together to bring you this new bimonthly SEA only tournament.
The aim of this tournament is to showcase and support the up and coming players in our region.
Real gamers play starcraft! It's all about passion and dedication. Practice and discipline. Going head to head with a direct opponent. Doing your best and striving to be the best. The pursuit of excellence. It's not a game for casuals, it's a sport for champions!
However it can very hard to have a breakout tournament, let alone win one, so the SEA Rising Star will be your place to shine and battle against your peers!
We hope this tournament will encourage more participation and give opportunities to the next generation of stars. The SEA Rising Star is a stepping stone towards greater glory, championships, sponsors, teams, etc.
2/3 tournaments will be invite only. Invites will be based on OSC + LAN tournament results, tournament participation, good series victories/scalp wins, ladder practice, etc
The target demographic will mostly be Masters+ players, but lower leagues can earn a spot as well, as we will be looking at ladder #dedication, and participation in sea tournaments. There are already quite a few guys doing this, so keep up the good work!
Format
Standard SEA Rising Star Tournaments will feature 8-16 invited players who will compete in a bo3 double elimination bracket.
Players will be regularly rotated out of each tournament to give others the opportunity.
Winners of a standard SEA Rising Star can't play in another, but can participate in the Open Challenge.
Every 3rd SEA Rising Star tournament will be 'Open Challenge', open to all eligible players.
The winner of an Open Challenge will become ineligible for all future SEA Rising Star tournaments.
Players who have qualified for WCS, placed top 3 at an ACL Championship, or won a Masters Cup are already proven champions, so unfortunately not able to participate in SEA Rising Star series.
*There will likely be some merchandise/gear/product as additional prizes, but this is still in the works.
*There will be no OSC points for placement, however, standard scalp series bonus victory points can be earned.
Open Challenge editions will have a larger prize pool ($350+), and feature OSC points for placement.
We will be launching with an Open Challenge $350+ edition on Sat 8th Feb!
This tournament series is in addition to all our regular tournaments, Masters Cups, OSC, Weekly Cups, etc, and new competitions starting in 2014.

Glad to be a teeny tiny part of this. Thanks Eddie for steering this ship while Team Exile5 and NVIDIA hang on for the ride Looking forward to seeing new stars in the scene. There is plenty of room up the top now, I want to see more people grab those spots!
"and we'll invest more on Bots, as our first Trial bot, the 'NemBotElie' was a huge success, organising tournaments and being part of the Council of mGG. But there are a few bugs in which the bot cannot go past the skill level of a Platinum Protoss." - PaRAnorMaL
Poor Poker... :P Also, I think the other three are pretty much retired, and you should let them play this just to entice them to come back.

Can see this eventually stopping everyone from playing.. Maybe I'll get to win one in about a year or two? #2016YearOfChadMann??!!!~
Also, I can't stress enough how amazing you are for this community, Eddie. Good work dude. Much appreciated to you and everyone else involved in this. *high-five*

This alone shouldnt be the deciding factor. These tournaments are only every 2nd month remember. Plus i've been saying it for ages, but 2014 is going to be a big year for sc2. More $'s, more competition, more rewards. There are also other SEA only competitions, such as Masters Cups. SEA Rising Star is about new players, not past stars.

Open Challenge editions are only every 3rd, so twice a year.

Also not to be pedantic or anything but YoonYJ and Aaron should also be excluded because theyve won Master's Cups too :P
Yes same rules appy to them, but to my knowledge neither has touched SC2 since 2012 so i didn't list them. Whereas Tgun + Mafia played in SCS Grand Finale 2 months ago, and Light still posts frequenly/follows the scene.

The idea is to reward those who are putting in the time, work and #dedication. I have though on extending it to top 16, but then everyone wont get a prize. The Open Challenge editions are to work out who is best of the rest so to speak, and thus have bigger prizepool and more prestige..

Ahh right I just read what the qualifications were based on!

I think top 16 is fine but only top 8 get prizes? This in the same way rewards people for putting in time, work and #dedication but further rewards those who has skills.

My thoughts exactly, plus winning one series sounds like a healthy necessity(and frankly it's not too demanding) to have a slice of that cake!
I'm willing to try 16 invites if that's what people want, but that'd be the max.
It's not going to be just Masters+ guys who will be invited, there are a few of the mid level players playing in most tournaments, pumping out ladder games, trying their very best to improve. That speaks more to me than a talented player who doesn't put in the time, or participate in tournaments. These guys may earn an invite if they keep it up. I wanted to give a little incentive to those who are trying hard. 16 players makes it harder to win, but would also have greater chance of an invite.
If it's 16 players, I might look at restructuring the prize pool, maybe top 6, with a random give-away or 2.

16 Player, $250 Invitational coming up next Saturday afternoon, May 10th.
Thread up in the next few days, players to be revealed leading up to gameday.
